Outer Banks Chamber Young Professionals

Seek Items For School Safety Buckets

The Outer Banks Chamber of Commerce Young Professionals are working on a community service project that will put a Classroom Safety Bucket in each classroom in each elementary school in the Outer Banks area.

With the increase in classroom emergency scenarios, classroom safety buckets provide items needed to keep students and teachers safe and able to remain in their classrooms for a period of time during a lockdown.  Approximately 200 buckets will be filled providing one for each main elementary grade classroom  in Currituck County, Dare County, and Ocracoke Island.

Donations of the following items are being sought to fill these buckets:  5-gallon bucket, Toilet paper, Flashlight, Whistle, Plastic gloves, First aid kit, Survival blanket, Wet wipes, Duct tape, Water/cups, and Trash bags. Those who have these items to donate should  give items to any of the Young Professionals,  or contact the Outer Banks Chamber of Commerce at 252-441-8144 or email [email protected].

"While we hope the buckets are never needed, we also wish to show our local teachers and students that others care and will be there in the event of an emergency," said Chamber President & CEO Karen Brown.  "The Outer Banks Chamber Young Professionals are glad lo support local schools in this way."

School Safety Buckets is the latest project of the Outer Banks Young Professionals.  Open to any chamber member age 20-40, the Outer Banks Young Professionals has three purposes including networking, professional development and community service.  Anyone interested in learning more about the Young Professionals should contact the chamber at (252) 441-8144.
