Seminar on Non-Violent Social Change
February 17 - 2, 6:00 - 9:00pm (each evening), Farrell Hall
Interested in dedicating a week of evenings to exploring themes of civil rights and social justice?
The Seminar on Non-Violent Social Change seeks to aid justice advocates develop skills and gain historical perspective for advancing current social issues in their communities.The intensive four day seminar will be facilitated by renowned Civil Rights icon, Dr. Vincent Harding and local social justice practitioners. Best known as a historian of African American religious traditions, for his work with and writings about Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and his leadership on the "Eyes On The Prize" documentary series, Harding uses past and present social movements to help participants understand how to galvanize for nonviolent social change.

to discuss the formation and planting of a multi-racial, multi-ethnic church.
  
 

 

Pathways in Ministry: Resume Workshop & Mock Interviews

Wednesday, February 19, 11:00am - 12:25pm, Wingate 202

Pathways in Ministry will offer two great opportunities for you to prepare for summer jobs and full-time work after divinity school. Jill Crainshaw and Chris Copeland will host a Resume Workshop in Wingate 202. At the same time, we will offer an opportunity for you to participate in Mock Interviews to practice your interview skills and receive helpful feedback. These mock interviews will be led by faculty and staff members. If you are interested in participating in a mock interview, please email Nic Williams with your name and the job and setting for which you like to interview (e.g., youth minister in a church, chaplain in a hospital, executive director of a non-profit, etc.). This is a great hands-on opportunity to build your interview skills, so don't miss out!

Film Screening: "The New Black"

is a documentary that tells the story of how the African American community is grappling with the gay rights issue in light of the gay marriage movement and the fight over civil rights.

Byron Fellowship: Now Accepting Nominations

The Byron Fellowship is available to 20 students and seeks to inspire leaders of the emerging generation to engage their unique abilities in leading generative efforts within their own communities. Opportunities available in Asheville, NC (takes place in August) and Indiana (takes place in May). Find out more.

 

 

Summer Ministry Internships

Generous gifts from donors, foundations, and congregations make possible several summer internship awards each year. Lunch with Dean O'Day

During the spring semester, Dean Gail O'Day will host several opportunities for 3-4 students to have lunch with her. These "lunch with the dean" events provide an opportunity for her to get to know new and returning members of the Divinity community, and give you the chance to share your thoughts, perspectives, ideas, innovations, and comments. FAFSA
This is to remind you that if you have not already applied for federal student aid for the 2014-2015 school year, you can do so now using FAFSA on the Web.  Go to www.fafsa.gov, select "Login" to log in and you will be given the option to complete a FAFSA Renewal that has much of your application data from last year. You will need your Federal Student Aid PIN to access your 2014-2015 FAFSA on the Web application.  If you have forgotten your PIN, you can request a duplicate once you login.
 
 
Mental Health First Aid Certification Training
Tuesday, February 25, 8:00am - 5:00pm, Goodwill Industries, University Parkway
The Mental Health Association in Forsyth County is co-sponsoring a one-day certification training in Mental Health First Aid with the UNC School of Social Work Behavioral Healthcare Resource Program. This training is excellent for those in the field of mental health, social work, human services, non-profits, education, clergy, or those who are graduate students and other interested citizens who want to learn more about mental health, mental illness, and how to correctly help someone in distress or crisis.. Denominational Day: Alliance of Baptists
Tuesday, February 25
Several events will take place:
  • Join us for community worship at 11:00am in Davis Chapel as Cody J. Sanders, co-coordinator of the Racial Justice and Multiculturalism Community within the Alliance of Baptists.
  • For those students who are affiliated with the Alliance of Baptists or are interested in learning more, Cody Sanders, Paula Dempsey, and other local clergy will meet following lunch in the Faculty/Staff Lounge at 12:30pm.
  • Laster in the afternoon, at 3:30pm, Cody Sanders will offer a lecture on his current work in Room 302.
