Genn also slipped into third place aboard Akida, with a clear round in 68.09 seconds.

Goldman, of Red Coat Farm in Hawthorn Woods, Illinois, has owned Centurion B since he was a youngster and knows him well. She took the now 12-year-old Belgian Warmblood (Rebel Z--Paloma G) over his first fence, and nearly a decade later the pair is a well-established team under the watchful eye of her mother and trainer, Mary Goldman.

Prior to their journey to Traverse City, the duo won two $20,000 Open Welcome Stakes and placed second in the $30,000 Nutrena Grand Prix during the Showplace Spring Spectacular Series in June in their home state. 

"He was really good there, and then he had some time off before coming here," said Goldman. "I want to send out a big thank you to breeder Allyn McCracken and Bannockburn Farm for him. He's my baby. I've had him since he was 3 and jumped his first jump on him." 

In the R.L. Polk Family Main Hunter Ring, Ice Time made a big splash. The elegant bay won all four Conformation Hunter classes with David Beisel, including the model, two over fences and the under saddle. This was Ice Time's first appearance in the section during Horse Shows by the Bay after showing in the 3'6" Performance Hunters with Beisel and the Junior Hunters with owner Maria Yzerman earlier in the series.

"David just started riding him during Series I," said trainer Heather Irvine of Hillside Farm in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. "We hadn't done him in a professional division for a while, and we felt he needed it. He's still green, and he only showed five times last year. He's really kind of like a first-year horse in a way."

Ice Time, a 7-year-old Oldenburg gelding, won tricolors in the Green Conformation and Junior hunter sections last year at Horse Shows by the Bay, but he hadn't stood for conformation since last summer. 

"I thought he was super in the first round," said Irvine. "I was a little concerned doing the 3'9" because he hasn't shown much, and the Juniors go today as well. I thought it might be too much for him, but he handled it great."

Irvine also complimented Beisel on his two performances over fences.  

"David's an amazing rider and has such a great feel," said Irvine. "He rides really light even though he does the jumpers a lot. I thought it would be a really good match because he's confident, strong and light. So it worked out. I was really pleased with [Ice Time] today."

"He's really cool. He's really the best in the handy rounds because he's slow and scopey and can turn inside," said Maddrix. "He jumps even better when you start to jump and turn. The more challenge he gets, the better he jumps."

 

In the 3'6" Performance Hunter section, sponsored by Team Rakowsky Equestrian, it was DDM Equestrian LLC's Amadeo and Bob Brawley who stepped up for the two blue ribbons offered.

Amadeo, an 11-year-old Zangersheide gelding (Rebel Z II--Renommee Z), traveled with Brawley from Argyle, Texas, and has earned ribbons throughout the Horse Shows by the Bay series.

 

Lugano and Courtney Schwabauer also swept their two over fences classes in the Large Junior, 16-17, section, sponsored by Huntsover Farms. The pair, trained by Greg Crolick at Top Call Farm LLC, earned the show championship during Series II and the reserve championship last week, and are certainly in contention for another tricolor.
