MAN, 70, WITH ALZHEIMER'S FOUND SAFE

AFTER MISSING 8 HOURS IN BERRIEN COUNTY

An extensive manhunt involving authorities, concerned citizens and even a Georgia State Patrol helicopter
BETHEA
finally located an A
lzheimer's patient who went missing in Berrien County for more than eight hours on Wednesday, July 30.

John Bethea, 70, wandered away at about 11:30 a.m. Wednesday off White Pond Road in Nashville as his wife was checking the mail, authorities said. He was later found wandering in a rural area.

"My father was found around 7:40 p.m.," said Bethea's daughter, Katie Tenneson, co-owner of Tenneson Nissan in Tifton.

I can never thank the people who worked so hard to help find him. He was dehydrated, had no shoes and disoriented but other than that was the strong person we have always known him to be. He is at the hospital being checked out. Thank you to everyone who reached out to us during this very scary eight hours."

On her Facebook page, Tenneson posted an aerial photo from the Berrien County Sheriff's Office showing her father being found.

"I can never thank these wonderful people enough. This shows the very scary and large area my Daddy was in. Thank you to everyone who searched/prayed/reached out!!" she wrote.

Berrien Sheriff Anthony Heath thanked all of the law enforcement agencies and officials who aided in the search.

"Thank you to the local citizens that searched on foot, by four-wheelers and golf carts; all of your efforts are greatly appreciated. God bless you all," the sheriff said.

LAST FEW DAYS TO 'STUFF THE BUS' WITH SCHOOL SUPPLIES

The 4th Annual Stuff the Bus School Supply Drive is underway through Monday, Aug. 4, outside Publix Supermarket to gather school supplies of local needy children.

Sponsored by Publix, Tift County Public Schools and the United Way of South Central Georgia, all supplies will be distributed during the school year through the Needy Children's Fund under the management of school Stuff the Bus system social workers.

During the drive, a school bus is parked in Publix Plaza in the grassy area on Virginia Avenue. There are volunteers from 4-7 p.m. weekdays to collect donations of school supplies and cash. At other times, school supply donations can be dropped off inside Publix at the customer service desk. Publix shoppers may also contribute by simply adding a cash donation to their grocery bill.

Supply donations are being piled into the bus to literally stuff the bus with the supplies every child needs for success in school.

The United Way of South Central Georgia is holding a children's carnival at the site from 9-11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 2. Every child bringing a donation of school supplies or cash gains admission for unlimited games, entertainment and treats.
