President's Letter

Dear Council Leaders, Friends, and Supporters:
Happy New Year! We hope that you and your families enjoyed festive and relaxing holidays.
The National Office made at least one major New Year's resolution - in November. Following the success of our 2015 WACA National Conference that month - which several of you said was the best ever (visit our YouTube page)! - we resolved to announce the dates of our 2016 Conference in record time.
Having put out requests for proposals to several DC hotels, we negotiated a two-year deal with The Capital Hilton. Save the dates! A week after Election Day, WACA will host a most compelling National Conference on November 16-18, 2016. (You can also mark your calendar for November 8-10, 2017).
We hope that Councils will resolve to schedule your fall programs around the WACA Conference, and encourage as many of your members as possible to attend and find out what's in store for U.S. foreign policy in the next administration.
Other good news: more Councils than ever - 48 - have organized local Academic WorldQuest competitions. We will soon share details about the exciting Carlos and Malú Alvarez 2016 Academic WorldQuest National Competition on April 22-23. We look forward to welcoming all those local AWQ champion high school teams to DC!
The World Affairs Councils of America starts 2016 in healthy shape, thanks to the leadership and energy of our dedicated WACA National Board. Please continue to share your ideas on how we can make our influential Council network even stronger.

The World Affairs Councils of America is pleased to announce that its 2016 National Conference will take place on November 16-18, at The Capital Hilton.
This distinguished hotel is

, who knew Anwar Sadat personally, and he's the author of numerous articles and books.
 February's Cover to Cover will feature innovation expert Alec Ross on his new book The Industries of the Future on Thursday, February 11, at 2:00-2:30 PM ET.
Ross served for four years as Senior Adviser for Innovation to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. He is currently a Distinguished Visiting Fellow at Johns Hopkins University and serves as an adviser to investors, corporations, and government leaders.
Prestowitz is founder and President of the Economic Strategy Institute. He has played key roles in achieving congressional passage of NAFTA and in shaping the final content of the Uruguay Round, as well as providing the intellectual basis for current U.S. trade policies toward Japan, China, and Korea. He is the author of many books including Trading Places(1988), which revolutionized the thinking about Japan's economic miracle and its relationship with the United States.
