(Sacramento, CA. - April 8, 2014) CAWA's Public Affairs Committee officially took a neutral position on SB 994 by Senator Bill Monning during its Committee meeting last week.  SB 994, which is sponsored by AAA seeks to create the Consumer Car Information and Choice Act by requiring manufacturers that generate or collect vehicle information through telematics technology to make disclosures to the owner about that information, provide the owner with access to the information for transmission to a 3rd party, and would prohibit a manufacturer from limiting or restricting the owner from accessing their vehicle information. 

CAWA follows its national partner, the Automotive Aftermarket Association (AAIA,) in remaining neutral on the legislation due to a number of concerns that linger unresolved. 

"CAWA commits to continuing to engage in constructive dialogue with AAA to strengthen the bill and add the aftermarket perspective but have decided to watch the bill's progress through the legislative process and not take a formal position at this time", stated Rodney K. Pierini, CAWA President & CEO. 

SB 994 is scheduled to be heard on April 22 by the Senate Transportation and Housing Committee.
