The full program has just been announced for Walk With Me, Canada's second national conference on changing the culture of aging. The program features four keynote sessions and 18 concurrent sessions with speakers from Canada, the United States, and Australia. This is a rare opportunity right here in our city to have conversations with people from all over Canada about how to change perceptions of aging.

  • Provide outreach services, make referrals and evaluate outcomes
  • Identify gaps and assess client needs
  • Mediate and advocate on behalf of clients
  • Develop case planning and goal setting action plans
Qualifications include:
  • Registered Social Worker - Social Work Diploma or Degree
  • Knowledge/coursework in Gerontology
  • Experience working with seniors, preferably within the non-profit sector
  • Working knowledge of community services and resources pertaining to seniors
  • Exceptional interviewing and case planning skills
  • Valid Driver's License and access to a reliable vehicle
  • Must pass a Criminal Record Check

TRANSPORTATION SERVICES STUDY - WINTER PHASE
University of Alberta Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences, Urban Planning Program

The study researchers are seeking seniors (65+ years) to participate in a short interview about transportation services. Help them think about appropriate means for the mobility of seniors in Edmonton. SPEECH AND LANGUAGE STUDY
University of Alberta Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders

The University of Alberta Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders is conducting a study on how non-invasive brain stimulation affects how fast and how accurately adults name pictures and read words and phrases. They are seeking adults between the ages of 55 and 75 years for a two hour commitment. Refer to the information letter and poster for more information on eligibility requirements. The section of Jasper Avenue from 109 Street to 124 Street it slated for full reconstruction beginning in 2019. The purpose of the Imagine Jasper Avenue project is to envision an innovative, vibrant and relevant streetscape that will strive to balance the needs of the community, commuters, businesses and visitors.

STAND UP COMEDY CLASS

Local comedian, Paul Sveen, will teach you to use your humour to tell your story by letting go and just being yourself. An optional performance for friends and family has been scheduled for March 7 (you don't have to perform if you don't want to). Outside of SEESA this class would cost $275 but they are offering it for $150/person early bird or $160 on the first day of class.

Volunteer/Work Opportunities for Seniors
BOARD MEMBERS
Central Lions Seniors Association

If you are interested in providing quality programming for a Seniors Recreation Centre, you should consider becoming a member of CLSA's Board of Directors. This is a working board highly committed to learning and to working for CLSA members.

Board members attend a two and a half hour meeting each month and participate on at least one committee: finance, fundraising, programming, clubs, special events, communication, volunteer and ad hoc. They provide direction and leadership to volunteer members of their committee and provide written reports to the board.

Qualifications include: experience in running meetings and serving on a decision making body, good communication skills, experience in management or human relations, current CLSA membership and attend a Board Orientation session.
