Happy Earth Day!

Hello again, CRA Members & Friends and Happy Earth Day!

What a huge success CRA's 24th Annual Conference "Zeroing in on Waste Reduction" was! Success can be measured in many ways and with this conference it certainly was:
  • The number of attendees was over 700. Our largest yet.
  • The number of sponsors was 24. Our largest yet.
  • The number of exhibitors was 89. Our largest yet.
Things were a little different this year with two conferences in one, but having our Manufacturer's Zero Waste Conference friends and colleagues with us turned out to be a great collaboration for us all. We are hearing such good things from you all about the program, the exhibits, the networking, the food, the hospitality and the list goes on. The evaluation forms continue to come in so we will compile the information and report back to you in a future newsletter or email. Please know that we want and need to hear from you and will respond to your ideas and feedback (take the 2014 survey).

We are grateful to everyone that attended and played a part in this success, which we can all enjoy and be proud of. We hope that you left the conference with more knowledge and many new contacts to further your programs at home. A special thanks goes again to our sponsors, exhibitors and volunteers. We could not do this without you. A special thanks as well to the program committee for a job well done.

Again, Happy Earth Day to each of you. A busy time for sure, but an important day to focus on why we choose to do what we do. Stewardship of our home (Earth) and its resources is a big charge for us and for future generations. I am happy to work alongside you.

 Take care,

Diane Davis

Executive Director

Recycling Innovators Forum Deadline is Approaching

The Recycling Innovators Forum is a venue for inventors and innovative organizations to present their game-changing ideas on how to advance recycling.  The Forum offers innovators throughout the recycling community the chance to compete for additional funding, marketing opportunities and industry support.

Co-located with the annual Resource Recycling Conference, the Forum is designed to elevate the best and brightest ideas in recycling to the national stage and connect them with the companies, institutions and organizations that can help turn them into reality.  Original ideas, inventions and processes presented at the Forum are "shovel-ready" and capable of producing a real and immediate positive impact on the recycling industry.

A winner from each of the following categories will be chosen September 15 by a panel of judges, with prizes of $20,000 each.

Enterprise/Institution -- Projects and innovations backed by large companies, organizations, and groups with established resources in the recycling industry.

Garage Innovator -- Innovations backed by a single individual, a startup team, or a new organization.
Do you have what it takes to win?

Applications will be accepted until April 30, 2014.

APR's New Tool for MRFs: Sort for Value Matrix
Wednesday April 23rd at 1:00 pm EST

China's Operation Green Fence policy sent many MRF operators searching for alternative markets for mixed plastic bales. Fortunately, many found domestic plastic reclaimers interested in purchasing non-bottle rigid plastic material. Although specific sorting by the MRF may be necessary to access some domestic markets, the additional sorting may well result in additional revenue. The APR Rigids Program, in cooperation with Moore Recycling, has developed a graphic tool called the "Sort for Value Matrix" that illustrates the economic value of sorting recyclable rigid plastics. This webinar will review the methodology used in developing the matrix as well as provide an explanation on how MRFs can use the matrix to better understand the potential value of their rigid plastic stream.
