Congratulations to all of our providers and their hard work as March 2014 brought about the highest enrollment in the First Breath program's history with over 170 women enrolling. Also, over 100 women received a My Baby & Me initial screening and FASD prevention messaging. Way to go!
Our Stellar Site this month, Eau Claire City-County Health Department, greatly contributed to this success by enrolling 12 women into First Breath. 2014 has been a great year so far, as they have already exceeded their enrollment goal, and have nearly surpassed their 2013 enrollment total. Congratulations! We appreciate your dedication to our program and the health of the women you serve.

My Baby & Me is designed to help pregnant women stay alcohol-free through one-on-one counseling and incentives. The My Baby & Me program has been aligned with best practices, using the FRAMES brief intervention; an emphasis on change in attitude and beliefs, as well as behavior; and a shift towards a harm reduction approach.
Since the relaunch, 144 women have been screened and 12 women have been enrolled in My Baby & Me.

April is Alcohol Awareness Month
|
The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), recognizes April as Alcohol Awareness Month and encourages everyone to follow these simple guidelines:
- Only drink alcohol in moderation.
- Do not drink if you are under the legal drinking age.
- If you are pregnant or could become pregnant, do not drink alcohol at all. There is no known safe amount or type of alcohol to drink during pregnancy.
In recognition of this month, the SAMHSA FASD Center for Excellence is conducting an Alcohol Awareness Campaign related to women's health during pregnancy. Drinking at any time during a pregnancy exposes the growing fetus to alcohol. This exposure places the fetus at risk for the wide range of physical, intellectual, developmental, and behavioral problems known as Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD). Please join us in efforts to raise awareness of the risks alcohol poses to a healthy pregnancy.
