As always, we offer extra special pricing the nights of our events!

Please join us for a delicious value driven tasting of French Wines from Aliane.  One of our favorite small distributors, this young company has landed some terrific French wineries from Bordeaux, Burgundy, Loire, Beaujolais, and Champagne.  The wine dinner we did with owner Aline Thiebaut (who is presenting the tasting) last year was a smashing success and our guests were blown away by the quality and prices of her selections.

There's an old French saying that goes " La sagesse c'est de ne jamais considrer comme acquises les choses que l'on vous prsente comme videntes". Simply translated, it means that wisdom is about thinking independently and not accepting things blindly. That perfectly describes the attitudes of Aliane's vintners. They are men and women who are re-evaluating every step from growing their grapes to making their wines. They are a new generation of vintners, firmly in the "non-traditionalist" camp, and have been exposed to wines throughout the world. They are committed to sustainable agriculture respecting their vineyards. They prefer generous fruit, lusciously scented elegant wines, not heavily extracted nor tannic, expressing the individuality of each varietal and of each terroir. They're making wines from "Old World" terroirs suited to "New World" palates.

We'll be tasting:

NV Domaine Bonnardot Cremant de Bourgogne Sparkling Ros, Burgundy.   A fine mousse with underripe strawberry, a hint of minerality and some tropical fruits. Finishes long. $24, Tasting $21

2013 Domaine Girault Sancerre Le Grand Moulin, Loire Valley
It took us 6 months to find this little beauty. Crisp, refreshing and aromatic with tons of lemon, lime, grapefruit and minerality.
$23, tasting $20

2011 Chateau du Grand Caumont Corbieres Rouge Tradition, Languedoc-Roussillon  (45% carignan, 40% syrah, 15% grenache) Rich and lush, this is a delicious every day drinker.
$15

2011 Montagne St Emilion La Bergere, Bordeaux
(85% merlot, 10% cabernet franc, 5% cabernet sauvignon)

Coming from the right bank, this merlot centric wine is easy and approachable yet has enough structure to keep it interesting.

$23, tasting $20

2009 Chevallon Chateauneuf du Pape, So. Rhone

(90% Grenache, 10% Syrah) Rich and balanced with generous fruit.  The tannins are elegant and the finish quite long.
$41, tasting $33

ITALIAN BEAUTIES FROM
MASSANOIS IMPORTS
5-8PM
$15
(waived with minimum purchase)

What do you get when you mix three entrepreneurial over-achievers, a gaggle of highly-qualified wine people and a handful of distribution and import licenses that once languished under-appreciated and under-utilized? You get Massanois Imports, a young, growing company importing and distributing the wines of outstanding, quality-driven, boutique to small wineries from around the world in New York, and California.

If you happened to read the Wall Street Journal article in which we were recently featured, or have ever heard me lament about how difficult it is to get wine reps to leave Los Angeles and visit San Diego,  then you will know how doubly excited we are to have Justin from Massanois with us on October 1st.  The portfolio has knocked our socks off and we're thrilled to offer you the opportunity to taste five spectacular wines at prices that will shock you and have you whistling as you walk back to your car!

We'll be pouring:

2013 Ca Rugate San Michelle Soave Classico, Veneto  Light straw gold in color. A fine bouquet of meadow flowers, with hints of chamomile, elderflower and iris. An elegant wine.

2012 Antico Fuoco Rosso Veronesse, Veneto  A real crowd-pleaser. A blend of Merlot and Corvina with juicy flavors of candied cherry, plum pie and sweet baking spices, it's a heart-warming wine perfect for lovers of full-bodied reds.

2009 Molino di Sant Antimo Brunello, Tuscany  Raw spice, cola, dark fruit, leather and tobacco open the bouquet of this Brunello from one of the sunniest sides of the Montalcino denomination. Savory notes of cured meat and even a touch of campfire give the wine a dusty, but elegant feel on the close. 91pts

2010 Bruna Grimaldi Barolo 'Camilla', Piemonte
The lovely 2009 Barolo Camilla opens to characteristic Nebbiolo aromas of wild berry, dried mint, licorice tar and pressed rose. The wine is elegant and feminine overall with fine, silky tannins at the rear. 93 pts WA

2007 I Greppi 'Greppicaia' (super Tuscan) Bolgheri

This is a powerful, full bodid wine, but at the same time it is seductive and smooth. Flavors of berry fruit with abundant tannins, which follow through to a long persistant finish accentd by dried figs and notes of chocolate. Impressive!  93 pts Suckling
