PLAY-PLACE INSIDER                      December  2015

                    Director's Take

Wow! Where did the year go. Gratefully speaking, 2015 was a very eventful, progress-filled season for Play-Place which is why I am compelled to reflect on all of the wonderful things I have to be grateful for: my beautiful family, friends new and old, my dedicated team members, lessons learned and all of the loyal support from the community along this journey. Three and a half years, 10s of thousands of donation dollars and materials, and many grey hairs later, it is truly a blessing working to see this dream come to life and being motivated by the stories of so many families that have expressed to me how this center will benefit them. I hope you too are counting your blessings as this holiday season quickly approaches.
Building Constr uction Update

These features are quickly coming to life! Mudding, taping, insulation, and lots of dedicated workers are fueling our progress. Evenings, weekends, rain (or snow) isn't stopping our work. We are truly so grateful for our volunteer construction team and the work they put in every time they are here. Additionally, we are excited to announce IBEW Local 58 and Ferndale Electric have joined hands with us for a whopping $368,000 donation of electrical labor and materials. This is a HUGE job and they are happy to donate it. We can't stop doing our "happy dance" in excitement for this giant leap forward. Thank you IBEW 58 and Ferndale Electric!

We are so happy our hard work is being recognized by the larger community! Thank you to everyone for your support.

Fundraising News

Tom's Of Maine
#50StatesForGood WINNER

Thanks to the Tom's Of Maine #50StatesForGood program, we won $20,000 in funding! We only earned this because of YOU, who sent out a tweet and posted to Instagram to nominate us. We are so grateful for your support. Know that your commitment to Play-Place is paying off!

Plymouth Roc Concert Benefit
Jason Longuski and his band, The Split, coordinated a benefit concert for Play-Place at Plymouth Roc Bar in Plymouth, MI! They teamed up with local talent Young Pioneer and Jet Black Blonde as they rocked out to a full house on November 8th. $650 was collected for Play-Place!  We are immensely grateful to the amazing musicians that helped pump up Play-Place, the fans for their support, and Jason for organizing this wonderful fundraiser for us! Thank you!

Adopt a Carousel Horse
We rescued these poor, cold, hungry carousel horses alone in the world and brought them in. They are safe and warm now at Play-Place for Autistic Children, BUT:

They have no names, and no one to love them. No horse deserves to live without a name! That's where you come in.

Be as creative as you want, or name him or her after a loved one. Your name lasts an entire year!

Your $100 donation to adopt a carousel horse goes directly to programming and construction costs for Play-Place for Autistic Children. Thank you for giving a home not just to these beautiful carousel horses, but also to families affected by autism.

There are  5 available horses; 14 have already been sold. This is a first-come, first-serve opportunity.

See you across the finish line!

Volunteer Shoutout
Theta Delta Chi
The men of Theta Delta Chi at Michigan State University braved the first major snowfall of this 2015 winter season to volunteer their time at Play-Place.  These amazing men are kind, sharp, industrious, generous, and have hearts the size of East Lansing. Play-Place for Autistic Children could not be more thankful for the hard work they put in! Thank you Theta Delta Chi!
