E-Connect

S easons Greetings from East Central Regional Library

ECRL's mission statement is to strengthen communities by connecting people with resources, spaces, and educational experiences that enrich and empower their lives. Every one of the 80 employees and countless volunteers who bring library service in our 14 branches and 8 outreach sites are committed to this mission.

Whether you connect with us in one of our branches or outreach sites or through electronic means, we hope your life is enriched through the information we provide you.

If you're making year-end gifts, we invite you to consider investing in your library. Make your tax-deductible gift by December 31st to East Central Regional Library, 244 S Birch St, Cambridge MN 55008. You may specify your gift for a specific purpose or branch if you wish, or your gift will be used to enhance our shared collections and services. You may also make your gift directly to your local Friends or library support group. However you support us, THANK YOU. And Happy Holidays to you and yours from the ECRL staff team and Board of Directors.

Barbara Misselt, Director
Welcome Heidi Anderson-Ferdinand - new Pine City Branch Librarian

Heidi is the new Branch Librarian in Pine City.  Sh e brings 28 years of library experience from working at the Anoka County Library as a Library Service Assistant.

While working at Anoka County, she demonstrated a commitment to library education by completing her Associate in Library Information Technology from Minneapolis Community and Technical College and Bachelors degree in history from Metropolitan State University. She is curre ntly working on a Masters in Library Science from the University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee.

Heidi says she has "seen firsthand the difference a library can make in the lives of the members of the community who use it." She says libraries "help to close the digital divide, foster literacy and educational success, and create a safe, welcoming space for people to gather, explore ideas, and access the materials they need."

The Friends of the Pine City Library invite you to help welcome Heidi with an open house from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 9th.

Board Members Recognized

Outgoing ECRL Board chairman, Jim
Raisanen (l) and three term board member, Tom  Sauer (r), with Director Barb Misselt

At the December 14th meeting, the ECRL Board recognized two of its members and thanked them for their service on the ECRL Board. Mille Lacs County representative Tom Sauer served 10 years on the Board. Minnesota Statute limits library board members from serving more than three consecutive terms. Sauer served the maximum number of terms allowed plus completing a vacant term. The Board thanked Aitkin County representative James Raisanen as he completed two years as Board chair. Board members' years of service attending meetings and making decisions for their respective counties is deeply appreciated by not only ECRL but the communities and the county they each represented.
Limited 2015 Tax Documents Available at ECRL

East Central Regional Library has received notice that the Minnesota Department of Revenue will no longer provide state tax forms and instructions to libraries and counties   beginning January 1, 2016. The Minnesota Department of Revenue is making this change in order to ensure taxpayers are filing with the most up-to-date tax forms and instructions, which are available online or by calling 1-800-652-9094.

In addition, East Central Regional Library has received notice that, for the second year, branch libraries will receive a limited supply of federal tax forms from the Internal Revenue Service. As a result of the increasing number of taxpayers using software to prepare their federal tax returns (95% electronically filed last tax season), the IRS continues to decrease the number of tax products available to public libraries. Beginning in January 2016, East Central Regional Library will receive Forms 1040, 1040 A, and 1040 EZ. ECRL branches will also have on hand reference copies of the 1040 instruction booklet and the 2015 Tax Guide for Individuals, for use in the library. Individuals and employers may order forms from the IRS webpage or by calling 1-800-829-3676, and the IRS will deliver them by mail to you. Many forms and instructions are also available to view and download online.

Library staff can assist with locating and printing online tax forms but are not able to give advice regarding the forms that you might need. Printing and copying is $.15/single-sided black & white page, $.25/double-sided black & white page, and $.50/single-sided color page.

Beginning in January 2016, you may wish to call your local ECRL branch to see if the Forms 1040, 1040 A, and 1040 EZ have arrived.
