Dear MPS volunteers,

Volunteer Shout-Outs
Reading to students
Green Bay Southwest High School comes  to MPS' Bryant Elementary School

The DECA student organization from Green Bay Southwest High School spent some time at Bryant Elementary School as a part of their Acts of Kindness day in Milwaukee on November 11.  Small groups of high school students read a book about colors to each class. The high school students then led a game discussing colors where Bryant students shared some facts about themselves, followed by another activity that required students to work together as a team.
The high school students also brought a book for every Bryant student to take home!
Reading Challenge
Community Reading Challenge
at  Thurston Woods Campus

Fifty African-American women from many professions met at Thurston Woods Campus to participate in a "Community Reading Challenge" sponsored by Milwaukee Municipal Court Judge Valerie Hill. The women represent a variety of different career paths including medicine, law enforcement, business ownership, social services and elected office. In addition to reading, they also talked to students about their careers.

Message from the Volunteer Coordinator
The cold weather is upon us!  Step foot in a school in the next few weeks however, and you wouldn't know it. The buildings are bustling with students getting their hands wet in the aquaponics tanks, discovering Jane Eyre, considering what life was like for early American Colonists, and building model bridges.

School climate is an important piece of the picture for staff and students and no matter your role, you are making an impact by contributing to a positive environment for learning each time you volunteer in a school. Keeping students cheerful, engaged, and eager to learn will yield academic success!

As always, THANKS for all you do!

Cheers,
MPS Partnership and Volunteer Associate
