HAPPY HOLIDAYS!
As I write the newsletter it is really snowing outside. Some people like snow, and some people don't. I love it. My dogs love to play and roll in the snow. I like the way it sounds when it is coming down in big flakes. There is a peace that fills the air. It's quiet, but you can still hear the snow falling and you feel like you are transported to a magical realm. I also love the day after a snow storm, when the sun is out and the snow sparkles like glitter. May you find peace and serenity this holiday season.
Tiresocks, Inc. will be closed on Thursday and Friday December 24-25, and only open for half a day on Thursday December 31, 2015.

Winter Solstice
Tuesday December 22, 2015 is the Winter Solstice. Also known as the shortest day of the year. It is when the dark half of the year relinquishes to the light half. The next day the sun will climb a little higher and stay a little longer in the sky, and will continue to grow each day until the Summer Solstice, the longest day of the year. Solstice Night, or the longest night of the year, was celebrated with much joy as the sun's "rebirth".
Yule Tradition/History:
"Children were escorted from house to house with gifts of clove spiked apples and oranges which were laid in baskets of evergreen boughs and wheat stalks dusted with flour. The apples and oranges represented the sun. The boughs were symbolic of immortality (evergreens were sacred to the Celts because they did not "die," thereby representing the eternal aspect of the Divine). The wheat stalks portrayed the harvest, and the flour was accomplishment of triumph, light, and life. Holly and ivy not only decorated the outside, but also the inside of homes, in hopes Nature Sprites would come and join the celebration. A sprig of Holly was kept near the door all year long as a constant invitation for good fortune to visit the residents. Mistletoe was also hung as decoration."
