Summertime... And what a lovely summer it is! Many of us are traveling in the coming months, have family and guests visiting from out of town, or are making plans to attend some of the wonderful activities Santa Fe has to offer. Those of us chapter members staying home are celebrating the summer with as many outdoor events as we can: a picnic on July 23rd at the Santa Fe Botanical Gardens, Music on the Hill on Wednesday evenings, and gatherings at some of our cool coffee houses (see column on the right for detail.) I look forward to seeing you there. Until then, stay cool!

Take a summer evening walk through the Garden. Pack a picnic supper and visit the Garden at the perfect time of day. BYOB -No glass containers and no pets, please.
The views are beautiful. The colors in the sky are gorgeous. Those treasured hours between the end of the day and the beginning of night are beautiful moments to visit the Garden. During this period of magical change, the most extraordinary happenings can occur in the landscape you thought you knew so well. There is no other place in Santa Fe where you can go to be so fully immersed in the beauty of plants. We promise you will not be disappointed.
We will gather in the Orchard at 5:45pm.

A Very Special Treat!
On June 26th eleven members of the Santa Fe Chapter of TTN met at the School for Advanced Research, SAR, for a tour of the grounds and the school's Museum of Indian Arts and Culture. The grounds are the former home of sisters Martha and Elizabeth White who moved to Santa Fe in the early twenties and left their mark all across Santa Fe. The gardens are lovely and their former home contains some original furnishings and pieces from their extensive art collection.  The guest houses on the property now house the school's Resident Scholars, working primarily in the field of anthropology, who receive housing and support for up to nine months. SAR also offers internships of shorter duration for Native artists among others.
The Museum of Indian Arts and Culture is actually a research collection with over 12,000 objects, 4,400 of them ceramics. In addition to ceramics the collection includes clothing, weaving, musical instruments, baskets, easel art and kachinas. The collection represents the Native art of Southwestern Pueblo people and other Native tribes and spans the time of contact with Europeans until today. Contemporary Native artists make use of the collection to recover techniques and patterns that might otherwise have been lost, and to find inspiration. More importantly, the artists are able to interpret the items in the collection for the scholars attempting to understand them.  This was really a fascinating tour. The TTN Leadership Retreat
Check it Out! From June 4th to 7th, the TTN board and chapter leaders from across the country gathered in Santa Fe to share experiences, weigh in on issues of importance to all of us, and to simply connect with a group of amazing women! There were many conversations about leadership, transitions, finances and other resources, communications technologies, etc. If you're interested in specifics, you can access all of the documents generated for and by the retreat by going to the TTN website: www.thetransitionnetwork.org. Log in with your member ID and password, type "Chapter Resource Center" in the search box and scroll all the way down. It's all there, including some great photos!

Host Your Own TTN Events!
For close to three years, the
Social Committee
(Ann Church and Linda McEnroe, co-cordinators, Maria Francis, Judy Donohue, Carolyn Moore, and Patty Smith) has arranged many events, including the weekly coffee club, to connect our members through conversations, learning opportunities, fun road trips, parties, and much more.
We're also encouraging all of you whose needs and passions aren't currently being met to start your own event.
With
MeetUp as a communications tool, this is really easy and far from "cyber magic.

The only requirement is that you host and manage the event that you start!
So, if you're a walker get a group of like-minded members together and choose your own pace and hiking terrain. Interested in the Classics, Quantum Physics, opera, baking, cooking? ... the list is endless!

a Hunger-free
New Mexico
The Food Depot addresses the most fundamental need
of all people: food.
For those who struggle with hunger, the effects are far-reaching and often difficult to see. Providing an individual who is hungry with food immediately impacts their capacity to be a contributing member of society.
Nate Patrus, volunteer coordinator for the Food Depot, will give us a tour of the Depot, tell us about the range of programs the Depot offers (i.e. Lunch Box Express, Mobile Food Pantry, Food for Kids) and volunteer opportunities that are available.
