Coordinator's Corner

Jutta von Gontard

Like everyone else who attended our April 27th monthly meeting, I thoroughly enjoyed the presentation by members Sue Legacy and Karen Hodges and the resulting small group conversations. What a fun way they found to make the topic of "communication" interesting and engaging! And I'm surely not the only participant who realized (again!) what a great group of creative and amazing women we are. Thank you, Sue and Karen!

Talking about communication: I recently heard from some members that they're not clear who to contact with questions, ideas, or concerns they may have. To make the flow of communications within our chapter a bit easier, here are the e-mail addresses of our various committee coordinators:

Chapter Coordinator: Jutta von Gontard, [email protected]

Membership: Rachel Greenstein, [email protected]

Programs: Judy Donohue, [email protected]

Social Groups: Ann Church, [email protected]  and Linda McEnroe, [email protected]

Logistics: Portia Blackmann, [email protected]

Finance: Maria Francis, [email protected]

Transition Peer Groups (Interim): Jean Palmer,  [email protected]

Communications: Virginia Asman, [email protected] and Margie Berkowitz, [email protected]

Please feel free to contact any of us!

Lastly, a reminder that we'll be gathering for our Chapter's Birthday Party on Sunday, May 31st, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. There will be cake (of course!) and cold beverages. This is a members-only celebration, but you're welcome to bring a friend who might be interested in TTN. Please RSVP on MeetUp or directly to Maria Francis, our host, [email protected]

by May 20th.

Monthly Meeting

The May meeting will be, as usual, on the fourth Monday of the month: Monday, May 18, 2015 from 5:45 to 7:30- - Please note date change due to Memorial Day
Church of Christ on 1205 Galisteo x Cordova.

Please note that the meetings now start at 5:45 pm and that we no longer have Tuesday afternoon meetings.

April program:
TAKING RESPONSIBILITY TO IMAGINE, HOPE, DREAM, AND TRANSFORM OURSELVES AND OTHERS
Panel Discussion with Marsie Silvestre and Sheila Lewis, Moderated by Sheila Doran-Benyon

Marsie Silvestre is an internationally known composer, artist, poet, speaker, activist, and author. Her music, art, and writings reflect her many years of working with women in the areas of personal trance-formation, empowerment, politics, and feminist spirituality. Recognized locally and nationally for her political and justice work, Marsie continues to change lives as the Executive Director of Esperanza Shelter for Battered Families, a domestic violence agency in Santa Fe, NM.

In 2010, Sheila Lewis retired from the New Mexico Public Defender Department to become the Executive Director of the New Mexico Women's Justice Project, an advocacy group for women and girls enmeshed in the criminal and juvenile justice systems. She has worked for the New Mexico House Judiciary Committee as a bill analyst and has served as a lobbyist for several progressive organizations. Sheila is currently the Director of Santa Fe Safe, a project of the Santa Fe Coordinated Community Response Council.

Sheila Doran-Benyon

When not trying to change the world, Sheila is a regular storyteller at Santa Fe Speakeasy, where she discloses way too much about herself and her family.

The monthly meeting is open to members and non-members.

A donation of $3 is requested.

Community Involvement:

Habitat for Humanity

Every year, Habitat for Humanity gives women an opportunity to participate in National Women Build Week by helping to construct a local home. Two years ago, several of our members participated and reported enthusiastically on their experience. If you're interested in honing your home and community building skills, please contact Sophia, Director of Volunteers & Family Services, at 505.986.5880 or e-mail her: [email protected].

Community Action:
DeVargas Mall Women's Health Fair

There was a nice crowd at the
DeVargas Mall Women's Health Fair on April 25th. Six of TTN's members volunteered to be at our table to encourage people's interest. Sue Burgess, Kathy Morse, Jean Palmer, Sarah Salazar, Linda McEnroe and Cat Gallagher talked with almost 100 women (and a few men!) who were interested in learning about TTN. On May 30th we will hold an informational event for non-members, a number of whom signed up at the Health Fair. Keep an eye out for event details and invite friends who are not yet members.
Host Your Own TTN Events!

For close to three years, the Social Committee

(Ann Church and Linda McEnroe, co-cordinators, Maria Francis, Judy Donohue, Carolyn Moore, Sue Latham, and Patty Smith) has arranged many events, including the weekly coffee club, to connect our members through conversations, learning opportunities, fun road trips, parties, and much more.

As Ann announced at a recent meeting, the committee has been thinking hard about creating a mix of social events that our working members and those who don't drive at night can easily attend, like the once-a-month Movie Sunday (see column on the right for the May events calendar.)

We're also encouraging all of you whose needs and passions aren't currently being met to start your own event.
With MeetUp as a communications tool, this is really easy and far from "cyber magic."

The only requirement is that you host and manage the event that you start!

So, if you're a walker get a group of like-minded members together and choose your own pace and hiking terrain. Interested in the Classics,  Quantum Physics, opera, baking, cooking? ... the list is endless!
