Greetings and Happy New Year!
The legislative session will begin on January 11, 2016 and it should conclude April 19, 2016. When the session ends,
Iowa needs a sound s
trategy
to ensure a
brighter future for all of us!
That strategy must:
- Begin at birth.
- Focus on the whole child.
- Promote quality.
- Address needs of children and families.
- Be efficient and effective.
The need is great in Iowa. Did you know that:
- 77% of households with children under the age of 6 in Iowa have all available parents in the labor force. Iowa ranks #1 among the 50 states, the national average is 65%.
- Children under the age of 6 are in child care settings an average of 36 hours each week.
- 21% of a child's time in the first 2,000 days of life are spent in child care.
- More than 1 in 5 Iowa children ages four months to 5 years are at moderate or high risk of developmental, behavioral or social delays.
Now is the time to invest in Iowa's future.
Studies show that for every $1 spent on services to children age 0-5, our rate of return is $8! To keep up to date during the next legislative session go to the Iowa Legislative website.

5th Annual Appreciation Reception
The 5th Annual Appreciation Reception held December 3, 2015 at Annelise Winery was a huge success. There were testimonials from families who received family support services and preschool tuition scholarships, along with a tear jerking testimonial about preschool dental screenings. Additionally, we heard from the child care nurse consultants. A big thank you goes to Jovanka Westbrook, Executive Director of Partners in Family Development for videotaping the testimonials. You can access the videos at the 4 R Kids website under the blog side of the webpage.
