Hole-In-One!!!

For her 60th birthday, Linda DeLong played Pebble Beach.  And, just to make the day a little more memorable, she made a Hole-In-One on #7 - 90 yards with a Gap Wedge! This was Linda's 3rd Hole-In-One, but her most memorable!!

Lincoln Hills Recap

We had the best turnout so far this year at the Lincoln Hills event on Sunday, May 4.  There were a total of 32 women who joined us.  We had five new members playing in their first 18-hole EWGA event:  Camille Sylvester, Susan Platner, Denise Arend, Kristin Montgomery, and Denis Gualco.

The game we played was called criss-cross.  You picked your best score on either hole 1 or 18, 2 or 17, etc.  So there was a nine-hole score.  You then subtracted half of your handicap for your total nine hole net score.  We had two winners with a tie of 27.5:  Kristin Montgomery and Terry Erl-BlairPatricia Ickes came in second with a 30, and Judy Mayes took third with a 30.5.  First place winners each received a round of golf at Lincoln Hills donated by the course.  And Patricia and Judy both won a $10 gift card to Haggin Oaks.

Unluckiest shot of the day went to Sonya Bradley whose ball ended up in a tree!!!

Rules Clinic

On April 29, 2014 at Haggin Oaks we held a very informative rules. John Nakamura, past NCGA President and Tournament Official went over the rules for common topics such as moving your ball, identifying your ball, and the difference between wrong ball vs wrong place. The four EWGA members who attended got an in-depth understanding of wrong ball/wrong place and picked up some handy information on local rules. We are so fortunate to have John doing our rules clinics. The latest NCGA magazine reports that John was honored by the USGA for 25 years of service and received their "Ike Grainger Award"! In case you are still undecided about signing up for the May 13th clinic, here is a quote from one of our members:

"I really appreciate the rules of golf clinics. It is 100 times more interesting than that little blue rules book, which is more like a reference book in code. John Nakamura is a very good teacher and makes learning about the rules more interesting. He also encourages discussion which helps with the learning curve. Don't throw away the little rule book. It will start making more sense after the rule classes!"  - Kayleen Kott

May 24 -- Wildhawk Scramble!

Announcing our 3rd Wildhawk Golf Scramble

MAY 24, 2014\

An ALL CLUB event you don't want to miss!

Here's a fun-for-all 18-hole golf outing for every member of EWGA. Whether you have a 40, 30, 20, 10, 0 handicap or have not yet even established a handicap, you are invited.

This is a TEAM event.  We make up each team with four players whose total handicaps are roughly equal. (For example, you might have a 20, a 32, a brand new golfer and a 5 handicap player on your team.) While every golfer tees off (pretty much) on each hole, from there you get to pick up your ball and hit again from the spot where your team's best ball landed and so forth. Everyone gets a very nice low score at the end of 18 holes! And, of course, we have team prizes for the lowest total score, the highest total score, and the team that tells the best jokes during Happy Hour on the 19th hole!

Here is a great way to have a fun round of golf - hitting the ball often but not always, riding around in a cart, picking up a few pointers on rules, etiquette, laughing off a bad shot and...best of all getting to know some more members of our awesome club!

Don't miss this great event....sign up ASAP.

(Note: Since we are making up the teams based on handicap numbers, please only request to play with one other player, and we will do the rest to make all the teams as close to equal as possible.
