 Coordinator's Corner
TTN is an organization that has changed women's lives and that is true for us here in Santa Fe. TTN is more than the sum of its parts. It's an opportunity to connect with other women who are experiencing the same transitions we are. It's a place to discover what choices we have about how to spend our time, learn something new, follow a new passion or resurrect an old one. At TTN we learn how we want to impact our own lives, the lives of those around us, or our community.
Local TTN: Being involved on the steering committee, in other committees or being a chapter coordinator is one way to have impact - to bring TTN to other women who need to connect and discover. It's not so much about what we get out of it, but what we give, that really impacts others and our lives too. Thanks to those who have stepped up to serve and if you haven't, let us know of your interest.
National TTN: Susan Collins, the new TTN Executive Director, has sent members invitations to participate in two different activities recently, one to serve on a Strategic Planning committee and the other about the Pace Encore program. I am on two of the Strategic Planning committees - Governance and Communication and Values. It's a great way to learn more about the National organization, to have an impact and to work with fantastic women across the country.
The pilot, two-week Pace Encore program will be in New York, and is designed to encourage and assist successful executives and professionals over the age of 50 to transition from careers in the private sector to encore careers - second acts for the greater good - in the nonprofit and public service sectors. I encourage you to take advantage of these opportunities.
Transition Peer Groups: Exciting news! The Transition Peer Group Orientation was held on October 22 and it was a lively and informative session. 17 women attended and 12 committed to forming a group and meeting for 4 times before the end of the year and then continuing for a minimum of six months. The Transition Peer Group Council put much thought and time into this event and worked beautifully as a team. There were several brand new members in attendance and a new evening group was formed! If you missed out on the Orientation this time, there will be another one offered in the spring. Social Peer Groups: Did you attend the Aspen Hiking Adventure, the Balloon Fiesta or have you been to one of the Wednesday coffees or Happy Hours? All of these activities and more are part of the Social Peer Groups which are fun, social activities. They are listed on a Meet-up group just for TTN members, called Santa Fe Chapter The Transition Network. You get notices of all the great activities that have been planned. Membership: We have many benefits of membership but one of the highlights is to attend the Holiday Potluck on Wednesday, December 11 at one of our member's homes. This annual event is an opportunity for the members to meet each other informally and have enjoy some delicious food. If you are not currently a member, go to www.thetransitionnetwork.org/join and follow the instructions for joining.
For those who are currently members, it's an easy process to renew: log in to www.thetransitionnetwork.org using your username and password. If your membership has already lapsed, you'll be automatically prompted to renew. Gratitude: Thanks to all who attended the Transition Peer Group (TPG) Orientation for their questions and commitment to moving ahead with enthusiasm. Thanks, also, for all of the hard work that the TPG Council members put into it: Beth Johnson, Glynn Anderson, Sue Legacy and Elaine Meizlish. Thanks to Nancylou Adams who types up our member's name-tags and who impressed one of our newest members who received one even though she had just joined the night before! Thanks to the Social Peer Group leaders, Maria Francis and Ann Church and to their team of people who come up with ideas for things to do and then carry them out. It's another valuable and fun way to connect.

Even smart women make some very common money mistakes. Do you let someone else handle all aspects of your financial life? Do you believe that financial issues are boring, or perhaps that you don't know enough to manage your finances? Do you think you don't have enough money to even bother with financial planning? Presented by Kate Stalter, an investment advisor at Portfolio LLC.

Social Events Report
Rising in the wee hours of the morning on Saturday, October 5th, TTN members Sheila Doran-Benyon, Ann Church, Patty Armstrong, Elaine Coleman, Susan Kay Wilson, Beth Johnson and guests Alex Benyon and Keri Durfee drove down to Albuquerque for the 42nd Annual Balloon Fiesta in time for the Dawn Patrol and Mass Ascension, roaming in between rising balloons and right in the incredible thick of things. QUANTUM PHYSICS BOOK CLUB FORMING | |
|
What are the physicists telling us about the nature of reality? Why does time only seem to move in one direction? Did the big bang really happen? Will the stars and planets ever stop speeding away from each other? Are there other universes besides our own? Does free will exist? How many dimensions are there and why can't we experience all of them? These and other questions may be explored in a new discussion group focusing on recent scientific breakthroughs, primarily in quantum physics.
The group may choose its own form of exploration: choosing one or more books to read and discuss, bringing information to the group about new advances, outside presenters and any other ways to keep us up to date on contemporary science. No previous experience in science is required but, on the other hand, is deeply appreciated.
