Summer's Blooms
Second Saturday
Plant Sale  
July 12th    9am-1pm
Washington Oaks Gardens

 

Summer's blooms, combined with Mother Earth's handiwork, displayed in all her grandeur, will be sure to enhance our visitors' experience. Join us for the Friends monthly plant sale!  Our summer sale features a wonderful selection of flowers and bushes together with unusual and hard to find plants for your home, patio or garden. Plants being showcased this month include Knockout rose bushes, both blue and white agapahphus, and crape myrtle trees.

 

Visitors may find Florida Natives among the selections on the plant benches. A portion of the plants were propagated and grown in the park thru the efforts of the Friends.  All proceeds benefit the park for enhancement of current and new facilities.

 

Regular park entrance fee includes this plant sale and the majesty of Mother Earth!

 

Third Saturday Photo Challenge

July 19th    ALL DAY 
Washington Oaks Gardens
       

Each month photographers will have a unique opportunity to explore the park looking for designated subjects to photograph and enter a photo contest for the park.

Participants will receive a map of the Gardens and the Challenge instructions on the day of the event.  The map and instructions will be at the Ranger Station until the park closes.

Participants are encouraged to submit a photo to the challenge, in JPEG format, accompanied by a signed photo release to: [email protected] to be entered into a photo of the month contest.

Christmas in July
Wood Carving Workshop

PALM COAST- The Florida Department of Environmental Protection's Washington Oaks Gardens State Park will host a four-part series Wood Carving Workshop.   This workshop offers participants a chance to create their very own work of art similar to the one pictured.

 

Participants will be instructed on the proper use of carving knives and techniques used for making simple cuts to decorate and detail their very own Santa carving. Students will receive personalized instruction and all supplies will be furnished.

 

This Workshop is closed. All available student designations have been filled.

Salt-Water Fishing Workshops
 
Adult(18 & up): July 10, 17, 24, 31
Children(8-17):  July 11, 18, 25 & Aug 1
Time:  9am - 12pm

Saltwater Fishing workshops are being presented to help teach adult and       child participants techniques for catching fish, as well as the importance of conservation and safety that should be involved when conducting this activity.  
  

Participants will have the opportunity to learn how to identify different saltwater fish species commonly caught locally, as well as training on how to use a fishing rod and reel, while fishing along the bank of the Intracoastal Waterway. All fishing gear will be provided including complete rod, reel, fishing tackle and bait.  Upon completion of the workshop each participant will be awarded a certificate and a souvenir fishing packet.

 

The cost of the workshop is $20.00 per participant and advance registration is required.  Forms for the workshops can be downloaded from our website:

Kayaking in Old Florida
 
Faver-Dykes State Park

The Friends of Washington Oaks sponsor wonderful kayak expeditions along the still waters of Pellicer Creek. Come and see why the Pellicer Creek is considered one of the cleanest, most pristine waterways in all of Florida. Certified Master Naturalist guides, using expedition sea kayaks, will take you on a breathtaking leg of that journey.  From river to sea, follow the path of dolphins, sea turtles, fish and eagles during this natural expedition from Faver-Dykes State Park.  Safety is of the highest importance and all levels of kayaking experience will find enjoyment, including first time kayaking adventurers.
