There was a time when $12.99 Barbera D'Alba was a sure shot value wine that would knock your socks off. Now that everybody has caught on to how delicious this grape really is a 12 dollar bottle is easy to find but not likely to take your breath away. Until recently, I would almost say the great 12 dollar bottle was a thing of the past. Then I was sampled on a wine that made me think again when I heard how much it cost. It was amazing!
The Franco Serra Barbera is a glass of deliciously juicy red and black berry fruit, lively acidity and enough tannic backbone to make you take this wine more seriously than you may think a wine at this price should. I loved every sip of this wine and hope you will too.
2012 Franco Serra Barbera D'Alba, Piedmont, Italy
Regularly $12.99, Special Offer Price $10.99
Cheese Pairing: Maccagno con Buco, $21.99/lb
Maccagno con Buco is a pasteurized cow's milk cheese from Piemonte, Italy. It's aged on pine wood shelves and washed in salt water periodically as it ages. The texture is semi-soft and the taste is tangy with a woodsy aftertaste. The tannins of the Franco Serra Barbera D'Alba are the perfect accompaniment to the salty, piney notes found in the Maccagno con Buco. It's a staff favorite with good reason! Enjoy together for the best experience.
