Victoria clinician and student scholarships announced for HIC

 

The Victoria Health Department has invited clinicians working in Victoria's public hospitals and Victorian-trained medical students to nominate for sponsored attendance at HIC 2014.  While preference will be given to rural medical staff, the department is willing to consider nominations from the broader clinical workforce. The Department will cover attendance for the pre-conference program, the full conference or individual days. 

HIC has many areas of interest for medical clinicians including: Trends and updates - from patient engagement and participatory health to the operating theatre, hospital access and patient flow; Hospitals' benchmarks for e-health; Electronic records -challenges and success stories. 

The Department will also cover travel and accommodation costs up to a limit of $500 per nomination. Nomination forms HERE should be submitted to the Department of Health by 5 pm on Wednesday 6 August, 2014.

HIC delegates invited to attend PCEHR session 

The Department of Health will host a PCEHR consultation session for HIC delegates on Thursday 14 August from 10.45am to 12.15pm. If you haven't already registered to attend the conference in Melbourne, this is a reminder to do so in order to receive your consultation invitation. HISA CEO Dr Louise Schaper says: "HISA is pleased to be able to offer this unique opportunity. In an intensive consultation schedule this offers a rare opportunity for HIC attendees to inform the Department of issues of interest and concern". All HIC delegates will receive an invitation and have the opportunity to express their interest in attending. 

Wed @HIC will feature a panel & workshop on Harnessing digital innovation and the emerging start-up community in healthcare.

  
Through connecting the decision makers with those innovating in the digital health space, we will unpack the pain points and opportunities for the health sector. The outcomes from this session will inform future planning and follow-up activity for how HISA can support, collaborate and work together to advance health innovation and entrepreneurship. HISA members are invited to go online and review the 16 submissions into the annual HISA Health Apps Challenge and cast their votes for the best in each of four categories. The voting deadline has been extended to Monday August 4. You can view the entries HERE.

Nominate for the Aged Care special interest group committee

HISA's Aged Care Informatics SIG committee nominations are able to be lodged up to 5pm (AEST) Friday 8 August 2014. The group's Annual General Meeting will be on Wednesday 13 August 2014. The people elected will take office immediately after the close of the meeting. To nominate, complete the nomination form and send it to [email protected], along with a high resolution photo and your 200 word candidate statement to let people know who you are and how you would like to contribute to the Aged Care community. Survey! Have your say on the future direction of e-health standards and processes in Australia.


Australia is currently re-evaluating its needs and priorities for e-health standards development through bodies such as Standards Australia and IT-14. The Department of Health is seeking to refocus its support to make sure it meets federal needs and priorities, both domestically and internationally, as well as the communities it serves. You are invited to contribute to this process by sharing your suggestions, ideas and feedback through this brief survey supported by the Dept of Health, Standards Australia, NEHTA, HL7, MSIA, ACHI and the Health Informatics Society of Australia.

Come to HIC and stay on for the Australasian College Health Service Management's August breakfast forum entitled Aged Care Reform - So What Happens Now? The breakfast will be chaired by Royal Freemasons Chief Executive and Deputy Vice President of Leading Age Services Australia (LASA) (Vic) Felix Pintado. New flash: The final deadline for submissions for the international conference on global telehealth has been extended to August 4. Global Telehealth 2014 will be held in Durban, South Africa, November 10-11. More information available HERE.
