April 15 - Jackie Robinson Day

Tonight at baseball stadiums all across the United States, ballplayers and spectators will pause to reflect on Jackie Robinson's historic contributions to sports and society as a whole. Athletes and baseball staff will also wear the number "42" on jerseys to honor this legend. Sixty-seven years ago today, Jackie stepped on Ebbot's Field as a Brooklyn Dodger. He became the first black man to play Major League Baseball.

Listen to our interview with Sharon Robinson, Jackie's daughter. She talks about the program, "Breaking Barriers: In Sports, In Life" and her experiences growing up in a family dedicated to social change.

Also read our blog post, "'42' and Its Power to Teach," about the recent film which depicts Jackie Robinson's early experiences as he created history.

Continuing with Youth Sports Safety Month, this post focuses on the qualifications and duties of athletic trainers.

We caught up with Cheryl Bernard after her travels to New Zealand for the World Curling Federation's Olympic Celebration Tour. In this interview she tells us about her adventures in New Zealand, how she sees the sport of curling growing, and why she loves the game!
