Girl Power Activism

"How many of you think you are too small to make a difference in the world?"

We sat on the floor in a circle, twelve 10-12 year olds and three young women. The girls looked around at each other. A few of them raised their hands tentatively.

"And how many of you have been in a room with a mosquito?"

During each week-long Girl Power Camp this summer, one day was dedicated to learning about activism and leadership. The girls participated in games and discussions about leadership, talked about their own leadership qualities, and watched videos of inspiring girl activists.

Connecting with our Neighbours

Do you live in Bridgeland-Riverside, Crescent Heights or Renfrew? We want to connect with you! The Women's Centre is very excited to launch a six-month project to get to know our new neighbours. With the opening of our beautiful new centre, we are excited to invite more women in and explore new possibilities for how women can connect with the Women's Centre in a meaningful way.
To learn more about the project and how to get involved, visit our website or get in touch with Rhoda.
Christmas Toy Drives

Every December, the Women's Centre hosts a toy room where women can come to choose gifts for their children. Last year nearly 2500 children and women received gifts through our holiday program. In order to meet the needs of these families this December, we need your help.
Please consider hosting a toy drive to support the community.
Contact Carolina to sign up today.
Community Events

Take Back the Night Calgary is an annual event dedicated to raising awareness and protesting against violence against women. Keep an eye open at Connaught Park (11 Street & 14 Avenue SW) for the Women's Centre banner and for an upcoming blog post about a sign-making workshop.
Featured Workshops
With fall right around the corner, we have many exciting workshops coming up. Yoga is back due to popular demand and we are also excited to be partnering with the Calgary Public Library to offer a series of basic computer workshops covering introductions to email, Facebook and Microsoft Word.

Basic Car Maintenance | Sept 2 (6-8pm)
Do you know what to do if your car overheats or if you get stuck. Do you know when to change the oil in the engine? If not, join us for a session on basic car mechanics. There will be some theory, but you will also have the chance to practice and find specific parts on your car. No children in this workshop please.

Tap to Relax | Sept 10 (6-8pm)
Do you feel bogged down, anxious or worried? Join us to learn more about Tap to Relax - a stress-relief technique that is easy to learn. During Tap to Relax, you will tap Chinese meridian points on the face and upper body while talking about something bothering you. This process can generate positive emotions and the feeling of being calm and safe. No children in this workshop please.

Come spend a fall evening with us walking, talking and hearing stories about women who have shaped our City. We are very excited to announce that we will be partnering with Calgary Outlink this year, and have some new content to share with you!

Our workshops & groups are free and open to all women. Click here to see the complete September calendar.
