Letter from Laurie

Dear Friend,

As summer approaches, I hope that you and your family will take advantage of the opportunities that are included in the Pulse 35: Summer Youth Resource Guide.

Street harassment is an issue that many women in New York City face on a frequent basis. It was so inspiring to see young girls discover their voices during our Girl Power: Taking Back Our Streets Through Art event, which was held in collaboration with Tatyana Fazlalizadeh and HollaBack!,

As Chair of the Women's Issues Committee, I feel that it is important to address these challenges by empowering both women and men to speak out against these inappropriate actions.

In recognition of Father's Day and the role men can play to curb violence within our communities, I am excited to partner with CONNECT, members of the New York City Council, and other elected officials, to host a citywide Father's Day Pledge on Saturday June 14th. Family is the glue that holds our community together and Father's Day represents an invaluable opportunity to celebrate and reaffirm our collective values. I invite all of you to come together, to celebrate fatherhood, and take the pledge to end violence together.

I hope that you will continue to engage with my office, exchanging ideas and solutions to improve our district, city, and state.

Yours in Partnership,

Laurie A. Cumbo

Member of the New York City Council
