Unlike many waterways around the world that suffer from devastating oil spills, urban pollution and fishery declines, parts of the Maryland Coastal Bays are actually getting healthier.

In the early 90s residents here on Delmarva observed the first disturbing signs of decline, rallied together and gained national attention for our beautiful Coastal Bays by delivering a comprehensive plan for their protection as part of the US National Estuary Program. Fifteen years have passed since that time, each one marked by remarkable strides in improving water quality, wildlife habitat and the rich abundances of fish and shellfish that make this area one of the most sought after places in our region. It's now time to once again look at where we're headed and forge the future we want - as a community - for our iconic Coastal Bays.
