Introducing the 2014-15 DAAD Young Ambassadors

With approaching deadlines for numerous DAAD scholarships and study abroad programs, many students are faced with questions about study in Germany. "Which university is best for my subject area?" "Can I get by in Germany if I don't speak the language?" "Is Freiburg really a fun city?" The DAAD Young Ambassadors are here to help!

2014-15 DAAD Young Ambassadors

DAAD Young Ambassadors are North American undergrads who have recently studied in Germany, or researched, or interned and received training from DAAD to inform their fellow students about the various study, research and internship programs Germany has to offer, as well as a wide array of scholarship opportunities. They're also happy to share their first-hand experience through advice and tips. There are 33 Young Ambassadors in this, the program's eighth year, so you're bound to find one who shares your field of study or geographical location.

Representatives from universities and other organizations are also welcome to call on the Young Ambassadors for support at study abroad fairs, information sessions and other events related to higher education in Germany.

Meet this year's DAAD Young Ambassadors and find out how to contact them via email at https://www.daad.org/ambassadors.

Meet the 2014-2015 DAAD Research Ambassadors!

DAAD Research Ambassadors are scholars and scientists in North America who have conducted advanced long-term research projects in Germany and are interested in promoting research in Germany at their home universities and among their peers and students. Research Ambassadors can help you learn about the rich and varied opportunities to conduct research, receive funding for projects, and launch collaborative initiatives with colleagues in Germany.

International Engineering Colloquium

Founded by the International Engineering Program (IEP) at the University of Rhode Island, the purpose of the Annual Colloquium on International Engineering Education is to provide a forum to discuss and share issues and ideas related to the field of engineering or language education. The Colloquium provides engineering and language educators, international program administrators, deans, provosts, presidents, corporate leaders, public sector representatives and students common ground to talk about educating engineers for today's global workplace.

This distinctive and unique annual colloquium meets every other year in Rhode Island, alternating with partner schools across the country.

The Colloquium is sponsored by the by the Federal Republic of Germany (Netzwerk Deutsch) via the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and features several DAAD alumni and DAAD Alumni Association board members as speakers, such as Brian Mitchel (Tulane), Eckhard Groll (Purdue), Rosemary Morewedge (SUNY Binghamton). Particularly noteworthy is the Round Table with Institutional Leadership on Internationalization Strategies featuring leaders from universities and government agencies will discuss their strategies and successes in internationalizing STEM education. Topics will include: financing internationalization initiatives, engaging industry partners, working with government agencies in the U.S. and abroad, choosing strategic regions, forming partnerships across disciplines and developing global content within the STEM curriculum, promoting faculty involvement, and incentivizing student participation. Dr. Nina Lemmens, Director DAAD New York, will be a panelist at the round table.
