Dr. Hatala recently completed a report for WPH called Soft Skills Development: Improving Organizational Effectiveness and in his presentation he made the case for soft skills training in workplaces.

Benefits include: improving competitiveness, morale, profitability, customer satisfaction, market share and company reputation and profile.

Employment Insurance coverage declining for all age groups

An employment insurance coverage survey for 2014, released by Statistics Canada shows that from 2013 to 2014 declines in eligibility rates for regular EI benefits were observed among all age groups. Notably affected were men (89.8% to 84.0%) and youth aged 15 to 24 (54.5% to 44.0%).

One reason for the decline was a change in the types of jobs last held by people. Those working a permanent full-time job, where one is more likely to work enough hours to qualify for EI, declined from 45.8% in 2013 to 43.5% in 2014.
