| Lakehill Wins Best Elementary |
|
Lakehill Earns Top Spot in Bubblelife Survey
In Bubblelife's largest and most intense survey in history, with 4,478 votes cast, Lakehill claimed the Top Spot for Best Elementary School.
Thanks to everyone who voted! Lakehill garnered 2148 votes, or 47% of the total votes cast, beating 12 neighborhood schools, both public and private.
Well done, Warriors! Way to show your school spirit!

Lakehill Celebrates Grandparents
L
akehill celebrated Grandparents Day on November 20.
Always a popular event for students and staff, the day is scheduled prior to the long Thanksgiving holiday, so that many visiting grandparents from out of town can share in the festivities.
After a delicious breakfast, sponsored by the Parent Faculty Club and chaired by Tora Greene, visitors moved to the auditorium for a memorable performance.
While introducing each class, seventh and eighth grade Drama students shared their favorite memories of their grandparents. Artwork by sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students lined the walls of the auditorium. The program presented students in kindergarten through fifth grade in their own unique musical tributes. First grade gave a passionate performance of everyone's Thanksgiving favorite,
Super Turkey.
The morning also featured performances by the Upper School Man Choir and the Women's Chorale. In the always heartwarming finale, children and faculty members performed "Family Tree," a poignant song written especially for Lakehill by Jack Noble White, a celebrated local composer.

Debate Teams Win High Marks, Advance After District Conference
Middle and high school students gathered on November 21 to participate in the YMCA Texas Youth and Government conference, a means for local clubs to simulate the legislative and judicial sections of government.
Dressed in business attire, the delegates were ready to take on real-world issues. More than 1,200 attendees from 72 delegations gathered at the District 5 Dallas conference, held at Centennial High School in Garland. Pete Sessions, US Congressman representing the 32nd District of Texas, provided the keynote address.
Upper School Team Advances to State
Twenty Lakehill students, representing seven Lakehill teams, competed in the State Affairs Forum. All teams advanced to the state conference, with six of the proposals automatically advancing without revision.
The proposal by Brandon Douglas, Varun Iyer, and Carlos Lopez, III on drone regulations was ranked second overall. Chambliss Pierson and Ben Gillman were awarded Distinguished Delegate for their outstanding performance in pro/con debate.
Zain Imam was elected the District 5 State Affairs Forum Chair. He will chair the district event next fall and will compete for the statewide chair position at the conference in January.
All seven teams will advance to the state tournament in Austin on January 30-31.
Middle School Team Advances to State
Students in the Middle School Debate Club presented proposals in the State Affairs Forum and bills in Legislative committees. Eighteen of the Club's 19 members were present. Students researched topics, assembled bills and proposals based on their understanding of these issues, and defended their positions by answering questions. Many had their respective proposals or bills pass.
The goal of the YMCA's Junior Youth and Government program is to allow students a better appreciation of how laws are made.
"Debate is really fun, because you get to learn about other people's opinions and what they think about our society and government," said Jonah Shaw, Middle School Debate Club president.
The State conference will take place February 26-28, in Austin. Students will have the opportunity to visit the Texas State Capitol before returning to Dallas.

It is the season to help others. Lakehill offers a variety of ways to get involved in the community and help make the holidays a little brighter for someone else. Read on to see what the Lakehill family is doing and find out how you can help!
Charlie's Angels: Sixth Grader Honored on National TV
Sixth grader Charlie Borowczak has been adopting angels through the Salvation Army's program since he was just six years old, and he has been dedicated to it ever since.
Charlie does "odd jobs" throughout the year, such as pet sitting, vacuuming, and cleaning windows, saving all of the money he earns.
This year, Charlie will sponsor 23 angels, his largest number yet. He has even enlisted the help of friends and family to help shop for the angels.
Several organizations have taken note of Charlie
's efforts. The Rotary
Club presented him with the Service Above Self award last year. This year, Charlie was flown to Chicago
to be honored on the Steve Harvey show. On Monday's episode, Steve honors Charlie as a "Harvey's Hero," noting that he is a "special kid." Steve Harvey told Charlie, "I think you're going to be a great leader one day, because the greatest leaders in our time have been greater servants."
Charlie's segment will air on December 7. Friends and family can tune in to NBC 5 (KXAS) at 2:00 p.m. to watch Charlie's interview! Check local listings or go here for times and channels in other markets. Be sure to set your DVR!
Middle School Canned Food Drive
 The Middle School Student Council organized a canned food drive to benefit Vickery Meadows Food Pantry. The drive focused on the four most-needed canned food items - fruits, vegetables, soup, and meat - with each grade focusing on one item. Students collected 1,937 cans which were delivered to Vickery Meadow. They also held a canned food sculpture contest on the final day of the drive. Seventh grade took top honors in the canned food sculpture contest with their Peace for Paris display, while the eighth grade dominated in the canned food collection with 1,458 cans. Trick or Treat for UNICEF
Thanks to everyone who raised money for UNICEF and helped Lakehill reach its goal!
Sisteens Collecting Stocking Stuffers
Now Through December 4
Help Sisteens collect travel-sized toiletry items for the men and women who will attend Lakehill's annual Holiday Luncheon for senior citizens in East Dallas. Suggested items include small shampoos, soaps, lotions, and other travel-sized toiletries, as well as other items like word puzzles, stationery, socks, etc. Please do not include candles, candy, or gum. Donation bins are located inside all entrances. The last day to donate is December 4

PASF Tamale Sale
The Pan American Student Forum (PASF) is selling tamales for the holidays to benefit Cystic Fibrosis research. The tamales, made by The Tamale Company, are lard free, gluten free, and MSG free. The tamales will arrive frozen and are "boil in the bag" ready. Tamales are $13 per dozen and come in three varieties: Ancho Chili Pork, Chicken Tomatillo, and Black Bean and Corn. Order by December 8 for delivery on December 14. Lower School orders may be turned in to your child's classroom teacher. Middle School and Upper School orders may be turned in to the Reception Desk or to Sra. Mayo.

Junior Class Keychain Sale
The Junior Class is selling keychains produced on Lakehill's 3-D printers in all Lakehill colors. The
ir efforts will benefit the Kigezi Health Foundation (KIHEFO), an organization in
Uganda that provides rabbits to families for a steady meat source for their family.
Keychains are $3 for small and $5 for large. Order forms should be turned in to Dr. Kroll.

 This annual event, sponsored by the Senior Class, provides a festive lunch and holiday celebration for elderly residents of East Dallas and the Lakehill family itself. Students may order the special holiday lunch or bring a sack lunch from home. The charge is $5 for Middle School and $3 for Lower School.

National Junior Honor Society Highlights Lakehill's Soon-to-be Graduates
In an effort to reveal the hidden talents, personalities, and accomplishments of Lakehill's most experienced students, the National Junior Honor Society presents:
NJHS Spotlight on Seniors!
This week's senior: Will Crutchfield
Will Crutchfield came to Lakehill in his sophomore year and has enjoyed his experience here.
Will is passionate about art. It is his favorite subject at school and something he hopes to pursue as a career. Will even takes extra art classes outside of school.
He will attend the
Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) in the fall to study Illustration and Painting so he can become further develop his artistic abilities.
Outside of school, Will enjoys fun activities like snowboarding and rock climbing.
Will's favorite memories at Lakehill are the Junior-Senior Ring Luncheon and the Upper School Retreat. The Ring Luncheon is a long-standing tradition where seniors pass the torch to the juniors, presenting them with their senior rings and t-shirts. "It is a nice traditional ceremony that also serves as a sweet farewell party," said Will. The retreat is held in September and is a great way for high school students to bond at the beginning of the year.
Will has had many fascinating experiences at Lakehill that will be with him throughout his life. He can't wait to use his accomplishments from Lakehill and his artistic talents to help him throughout college.

The Varsity Girls Basketball team kicked off their season on November 24 with a scrimmage against DASCHE homeschool team. The girls lost 64-55. They were lead in scoring by
Charity Abengowe with 31 points, including five three-pointers.
Jakayla Silas added 17 points.
Lakehill held their second scrimmage against Bishop Dunne on November 28. The Lady Warriors fought hard, but came up short, losing 59-50. The team was lead in scoring by Abengowe with 32 points.
The Lady Warriors opened the regular season at Carrollton Christian Academy (CCA) on November 30. After getting off to a fast start and surging to a 30-3 lead in the first quarter, the team defeated CCA 73-21. The Lady Warriors were lead in scoring by Silas with 24 points and Abengowe with 18 points and 14 steals. The Warrior defense forced 50 turnovers by CCA.
Next up for the Lady Warriors is the Poetry Christian tournament on December 5.
 The Varsity Boys Basketball team defeated CCA 41-30 in their first game of the season.
Noah Bernstein paced the Warriors while
Gerard Franklin added 13. The Warriors take on Dallas Academy at home on December 4 at 6:30 p.m.
Middle School Basketball
The Middle School Girls IAA team took on Zion Lutheran on November 19 in their second game of the season, winning 43-30.
The Middle School Boys IAA team played their second league game on November 19 at neighborhood rival Zion Lutheran. The Warriors broke the game open in the second and third periods en route to a convincing 55-24 win.
Eighth graders
Cole Johnson and
Gaige Cerda led the team in points and rebounds, respectively, while the seventh-grade triumvirate of
Christian Barefoot,
Ryan Henry, and
Nathan Lewis provided a big spark off the bench. Lakehill is now 2-0 and will face St. John's on December 2 at 4:30 p.m.
The Middle School seventh grade boys team faced DeSoto Canterbury on November 19 on the road. Lakehill put up a good fight, but fell 30-15. On November 30, the Warriors hosted Dallas Thunder, one of the area's top home school organizations, falling 52-21.
Asher Chamoy led the team in scoring both games, with
Emerson Danamraj and
Hunter Cowart providing defensive help. The team will host Firewheel Academy on December 4 at 5:00 p.m.
Middle School Soccer
After a rain-out on December 1, the Middle School Co-ed Soccer team will now open their season on December 10 at Prince of Peace at 5:00 p.m.
