Young Kenyan Doctor and Former Miss Africa USA Delegate Impacts the Lives of People Living with Sickle Cell Disease.

She was Kenya's Delegate in the Miss Africa USA Pageant 2012 -2013, Dr Marie Ojiambo lives with Sickle Cell Disease but she has found spiritual healing in living with her condition and she is on a mission to help others fight the disease. She is grateful to the Miss Africa USA Pageant for giving her the opportunity and the platform to launch her mission, when she entered the competition in 2012 and the top requirement of the contest is that you have a cause to advocate and make a difference.  She choose Sickle Cell Disease Awareness and from that, she birthed her foundation 'SICKLE STRONG INITIATIVE'.

September is Sickle Cell Awareness Month.  Dr Marie Ojiambo is reaching out to Sicklers everywhere to share their stories of survival as Sickle Strong Warriors and offering advice on how to live a strong and positive life as a Sickler.  Her Foundation also offers opportunities for donors to support Sicklers in Africa especially children by adopting and helping them with provision of medications and more.  Please Watch the powerful Video of Marie Ojiambo and visit the Foundation website for more.   Share her story to any Sicklers or people living with debilitating health conditions. It is inspiring.
Marie's Story
Marie's Story

Marie Ojiambo is a Doctor of Pharmacy who graduated with a bachelors of Pharmacy from University of Nairobi School of Pharmacy, Kenya and subsequently relocated to the United states of America for further studies. She is currently pursuing a MSc in Industrial Pharmacy, thesis program at St. Johns University, Queens, NY.

Fighting For The Welfare of Children

The young Doctor has a growing passion as concerns the welfare of children and young adults suffering from Sickle Cell disease. Sickle Cell disease continues to be a growing health concern in many African countries, African American communities, some Asian communities and as well as populations in the Mediterranean regions including Greece and Italy. Marie was born and has been raised with Sickle cell disease which is what her initiative focuses on. On relocating to the United States of America, the young Doctor fell sick and realized how little people around her knew about the disease, medical personnel included. This marked a turning point in her life. She has dedicated all her free time to raising awareness around the disease and finding ways by which she could assist other patients suffering the condition. Her primary target been individuals afflicted with the condition who stem from needy backgrounds and who are in need of a strong support system of which she has been fortunate to have.

The Sickle Strong Initiative

It is a Not for profit that was birthed in the year 2012 by Dr. Marie Ojiambo, a young Doctor of Pharmacy who suffers from sickle cell disease. The organisation's mandate is to create awareness around sickle cell disease, create awareness around the control and management of the disease, create a positive environment around patients suffering sickle cell disease and to help fight and decrease the stigma faced by patients suffering the disease.
