Sign Up for the School of Divinity Retreat 
You are invited to the 2014 School of Divinity Retreat, Wildnerness Journeys. The retreat will be led by Shonda Jones, Chris Copeland, Monique Swaby, Analyse Triolo, and Terrinae Watson, and will provide an opportunity for community building, spiritual growth, and rest. The retreat will be held Friday, January 31 beginning at 3:00pm through 4:00pm on Saturday, February 1 at Haw River State Park in Browns Summit, NC. Cost is $35 for a double room, $55 for single room (includes three meals, programming, and lodging). Reserve your space today as
registration ends Tuesday, January 21.

 

 

Community Worship

As we begin the spring semester, the Chapel Committee would like to invite you to be a part of community worship each week. We gather on Tuesday and Thursday at 11:00am in Davis Chapel and are led in worship by members of the School of Divinity as well as individuals from the Winston-Salem community. We have some wonderful and gifted worship leaders this semester so we encourage you to check out the schedule online and plan to be a part of the gathered community in worship. 

 

 

Summer Internship Funding

The School of Divinity makes available funding to support summer ministry internships. Look for the application for summer 2014 internship placements in the next couple of weeks. If you are interested in this opportunity, please be thinking about the ministry setting in which you would like to serve as an intern.

 

 

Moyers Scholar Program for Summer 2014

The Bill and Judith Moyers Scholars Program provides funding for one School of Divinity student to serve as an intern for one summer at the Baptist Joint Committee for Religious Liberty (BJC) in Washington, DC. The BJC is dedicated to defending and extending religious liberty for all people. The award for the summer of 2014 pays for the cost of double-occupancy housing in Washington and includes a stipend. Please email John Senior for an application. Applications will be due February 14.

How do you determine the right job for you? What strategies should you use to find the perfect job? What's the best way to keep the job you love? These questions and more will be explored to help students think about and plan for ministry after school. The workshop will be led by John Senior, Shonda Jones, and Chris Copeland. Snacks will be provided; RSVP to Chris Copeland by Monday, January 20.


Career Services Resource Library
We are excited to announce that our brand new Career Services Resource Library is now open! The library contains books and other helpful materials that will help you navigate the waters of job finding, and further prepare you for your life after school. Some of the resources include Start and Grow your Faith-Based Non-Profit; Vocation: Discerning Our Callings in Life, and many more. You may browse and borrow books by visiting the library in Wingate 203B. We encourage you to familiarize yourself with these new resources. Nadia Bolz-Weber 
February 11 - 12
Nadia Bolz-Weber will give a free, public lecture on Tuesday, February 11 at 7:00pm in Wait Chapel on her memoir, Pastrix: the Cranky, Beautiful Faith of a Sinner & Saint. On Wednesday, February 12, she will be present at coffee hour to discuss the emerging church movement and religious leadership in the 21st century. Coffee hour is not an event open to the public. Please help us spread the word to those whom you know may be interested in attending the lecture on Tuesday evening. Bolz-Weber is the founding pastor of House for All Sinners and Saints, an ELCA mission church in Denver, Colorado.
 
 



Job of the Week

Johnson City, TN - Appalachia Service Project (ASP) seeks a Summer Chaplain. The Chaplain travels within the five state regions of West Virginia, Virginia, Tennessee, North Carolina, and Kentucky in which ASP performs their summer youth volunteer program. Responsible to ASP's Ministries Department, the Chaplain provides spiritual consultation to summer staff and partners in service, gives programming assistance, consultation of faith-related training sessions, and completes miscellaneous administrative duties related to ASP's spiritual components.

On Saturday, January 18, 2014, please join us for a Read-In event at Wake Forest University. The Read-In promotes King's legacy of service, literacy, and community empowerment to children ages 4-10.
