HOLIDAY SAFETY TIPS FROM SANDY SPRINGS FIRE RESCUE
Holiday Decorations
The holidays are time for families and friends to gather and share traditions like cooking and decorating the tree or lighting the menorah. SSFR wants everyone to enjoy a happy and safe season and offers the following tips:
  • Stay in the kitchen when you are cooking.
  • Keep children away from the stove - at least  3 feet away, and never leave children alone in room with a lit candle.
  • Make sure your smoke alarms are working.
  • Get an annual chimney check by a qualified professional chimney service technician. To locate a CSIA Certified Chimney Sweep® or CSIA Certified Dryer Exhaust Technician®, visit www.csia.org
  • Keep tree branches and leaves at least 15 feet away from the top of the chimney.
  • Choose well-seasoned wood that has been split for a minimum of six months - one year and stored in a covered and elevated location. Never burn Christmas trees, treated wood or wrapping paper in your fireplace or wood stove.
  • Use a fireplace screen. Use metal mesh or a screen in front of the fireplace to catch flying sparks that could ignite or burn holes in the carpet or flooring.
  • Never leave a fire unattended. Before turning in for the evening, be sure that the fire is fully extinguished.
  • When selecting a Christmas tree, choose one with fresh, green needles that don't fall off when touched.
  • Place tree at least three feet away from any heat source like fireplaces, radiators, heat vents, etc.
  • Use lights that have the label of a recognized testing laboratory and make sure they're either for indoor or outdoor based on your needs.
  • Two of every five home decoration fires are started by candles - blow out lit candles before leaving a room or going to bed.
  • Never use lit candles to decorate the tree and always turn it off before leaving home or going to bed.

Chimney Even though it's a little cooler outside, you can still bundle up and visit the City's parks. Construction reminder! We know it's slow and appreciate the patience. The good news is that the park IS OPEN for your use.I

ACT3 PRODUCTIONS PRESENTS:
THE LAST NIGHT OF BALLYHOO
Act3 Productions will present The Last Night of Ballyhoo, December 4 through 19 at Act3 Playhouse. Tickets are $15-$23 and may be purchased at www.act3productions.org . The story line for Last Night of Ballyhoo takes place in Atlanta, in December of 1939. Gone with the Wind is having its world premiere, and Hitler is invading Poland, but Atlanta's elitist German Jews are much more concerned with who is going to Ballyhoo, the social event of the season. Especially concerned is the Freitag family. The family gets pulled apart and then mended together with plenty of comedy, romance and revelations along the way. The performance schedule is:  December 4, 5, 11, 12, 18 and 19 at 8 p.m.  A Sunday matinee will be offered December 13 at 3 p.m. Group rates are available by calling 770-241-1905.
