TOPICS THIS MONTH
APRIL IS NATIONAL CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION MONTH

The Child Abuse Prevention Center (CAP Center) invites you to join us in recognizing April 2014 as Child Abuse Prevention Awareness Month.

Child Abuse Prevention Awareness Month is an annual opportunity to promote the importance of protective factors that increase the health and wellbeing of children and families. Instead of looking at what is wrong with families, we find ways to build on a family's strengths.

Connect with your families by picking a weekly topic to explore during the month of April 2014. Click HERE for resources that emphasize ways you can contribute to the healthy development of children and families.

For more information about the Child Abuse Prevention Center visit www.thecapcenter.org. To learn more about provider trainings available under the Quality Child Care Collaborative check out the Calendar of Events at Child Action, Inc., or contact CAPC's Training and Outreach Coordinator, Isela Murrieta at (916) 244-1959.

The CAP Center will be highlighting the activities of our members all month long on social media, so share photos of you and your colleagues wearing blue and let us know how you are commemorating Child Abuse Prevention Month. Follow the CAP Center on Facebook and Twitter to post and share photos, information, inspiration, and fun activities throughout the month of April using #wearblue4kids!

IMPORTANT LICENSING INFORMATION

We are very pleased to work with so many qualified and responsive family child care providers. As part of our continued efforts to support child care programs with the transfer of licensure from the county to the state, we would like to highlight an important regulation.

"Inspection Authority" - Program analysts from the State of California Community Care Licensing Regional Office are authorized to make announced and unannounced visits to your program.

Like the county, the state visits will be conducted by an authorized analyst carrying an identification badge. If you need additional verification when the analyst arrives, you can call the Regional Office at (916) 263-5744.  We encourage you to verify the identity of every person entering your home.

As a licensed child care program you are required to let a Licensing Analyst inspect your home. To deny entry to the Licensing Analyst is a serious violation and is usually accompanied by a civil penalty.

We know how dedicated family child care programs are to the families and children they serve and that you want to ensure that your child care program complies with licensing regulations. You may contact us at 916-369-0191 if you have any questions.

This licensing regulation, Section 102391, may be viewed HERE.

No Biting- Policy and Practice for Toddler Programs

by
Gretchen Kinnell

For providers struggling with finding a respectful, appropriate way to deal with a very emotionally charged situation, this book offers fresh, developmentally appropriate and sensitive advice.

Most toddler programs are familiar with biting- it's a frustrating, undesirable behavior very common for this age group!

The book, "No Biting" focuses on causes of biting and how providers can create a program that minimizes situations that lead to biting.
