Richard & Ann

Our household has been blessed with a new pair of twin girls who were born on 15th August 2014 to our son Scott and daughter-in-law Stacy who have been staying with us since they returned from the United States.  The two new little ones are called 'Olivia' and 'Isla' and they are doing extremely well.  I am teaching my eldest granddaughter Havyn LEM English phonics for reading and writing and we are now well into the multiple photograms.  Our grandson, Luka is 2 ½ years old and he is learning other things that two and a half-year-old boys learn at this stage.  We are all having a great time together has a family.

Thank you for your continued prayers.  I am doing a lot better although the doctor would not give me clearance to return to India this September.  However, I went to the hospital for a 'cardioversion' where they stop your heart and restart it to try to get the heart rhythm working properly'; and my heart was self-corrected.  Thanks be to God!  I didn't need the procedure - which we are all rejoicing about.  I'm still having some difficulties with my respiratory system but all the infection has been completely cleaned up and I am off antibiotics finally.  It seems that my two great enemies (medically speaking) are 'stress and infection'.

I have made good use of the extra time that I have had whilst convalescing.  I have just finished writing some autobiographic material that I started at the beginning of the year.  It is intended for my close friends who are familiar with our ministry and family along with our future generations.  The main emphasis is upon my personal spiritual pilgrimage under the title 'The Pursuit of God'.  I have also completely developed my work on the Book of Revelation, which is an historicist postmillennial treatment of Chapters 12 to 22 under the title 'The Quest for Millennial Hope' (Revised Edition).  This work is now available on Amazon e-books under the given title.  The entire book has been fully edited and diagrams developed.  The work is now properly posted and you can download it using your Kindle (if you possess such a thing). If you would like a complete copy from my computer I can send it to you as an attached document. Please do not hesitate to ask if that is your best option. I am now working on a further treatment of Revelation 1 to 11 under the title, The Great Tribulation which is a study of Revelation 1 to 11 under the injunction with a promise of our Lord Jesus, 'Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.  Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you forcibly for my sake.  Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you' (Matthew 5:10-12).

I will be making church visitations to North Queensland 1-17 November 2014 as follows:

  • 1-2/11/14 John Knox Presbyterian Church, Rockhampton, Missions Presentation at a shared dinner 6pm, and an IRFA Presentation at 7pm.  Preaching at 9am on Sunday morning.  Preaching at Grace Presbyterian Church, Rockhampton at 5pm.
  • 8-9/11/14 Harvey Bay Presbyterian Church 67th Anniversary.  Speaking on the Saturday evening and preaching on Sunday morning with an IRFA presentation.
  • 11-15/11/14 teaching seminar in the evenings on 'Covenant Theology and Kingdom' for the Gladstone area.
  • 15-17/11/14 St Andrews Presbyterian Church, Townsville where I will be preaching and taking an IRFA presentation to bring those who are able to come up-to-date with the latest with IRFA.  Flying home from Townsville to Brisbane on Monday, 17th November.
In His manifold mercies

Pastors Theological Training in Delhi
Pastors Theological Training in Delhi

BIBLE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, DELHI

The church-planting ministry in Delhi has become very busy with Rev. Hiralal Solanki having a wider brief with his overall denomination, called 'The Reformed Presbyterian Church of India'.  He has been running a special Church-Planter Pastors' School of theological training under the auspices of the Presbyterian Theological Seminary in Dehra Dun.  The stipendiary support for Hiralal Solanki has been invaluable for the extension of the work in Delhi and other parts.

Thank you for your help in giving financial support to Hiralal in full each month. We are very grateful to God's people here in Australia.

With funds received through the IRFA Fellowship of Churches we are supporting

Sanjay Sukram Jagnik along with his wife at PTS in Dehra Dun, and it is reported that he is doing well in his studies and looking forward to church-planting work with the RPCI upon graduating in 2016.  We would like to support him until he is settled in church-planting work.

Hiralal Solanki reports the following:

Warm Christian greetings.

Last few months have been very challenging and of change in my life.  I have been appointed as ministry coordinator for RPCI synod.  This includes my visiting churches and proposing mission fields and works, also the welfare of mission workers and pastors, evangelists.

Last months I visited two churches in Jaipur - Rajasthan.  They are doing fine.  I was blessed to hear their testimony in Christ.  One of the churches which is growing well requires to extend their room to accommodate more people.

In Delhi I visited Narela Church.  It is going through a struggle.  One Korean person who was helping them for rent of worship place stopped helping.  Now they do not have a place thus worshiping in family house which is small.

I am regularly ministering the word and sacrament at Maharauli Church every first Sunday of the month as the evangelist there is not ordained.  It is a blessing to serve in this way.

I am glad that God is using me to develop and encourage the work in RPCI.  I pray to see that one day there will be many presbyteries with many churches in RPCI.

I am also Dean of Reformed Bible School - a church planting endeavour in our presbytery.  We have 11 students at present.  We expect 9 of them to plant churches in Delhi.

Lord has also brought another opportunity in my life in area of training.  I have also taken up to be Dean of Global Leadership Institute, which offers BA and MA in theology.

My family is fine; God has been good to me and family.  Arpita my daughter is in 12 Grade and Abhishikt my son is in Grade 9.

Pastor Uma Sharma Introduces Christianity Explored
Pastor Uma Sharma Introduces Christianity Explored

Pastor Uma Sharma reports that his injury from the motorcycle accident is

now in the past.  We thank for a generous financial gift to assist Uma in the large medical costs that he incurred on that occasion.

Evangelism at the University is beginning to bear quite a lot of fruit.  The use of Christianity Explained that Uma has translated and printed was funded by the Hawthorne Presbyterian Church in Melbourne.  This material has been greatly used not only in Kathmandu but in special missions in the far west and the far east of Nepal.  We have been able to financially underwrite two missionary journeys where a team of evangelists were able to go into the furthest reaches of Nepal.  We were also able to fund the purchase of full Nepali Bibles and they have been well used in evangelic outreach in these areas.  Uma is becoming a noted preacher amongst his own people and is being invited to preach the Gospel in many places.  We can thank God for the various opportunities that Uma and his team of evangelists have had.

Third Anniversary Service of Nepal Campus Church

Thank you very much for your continued prayer for the third anniversary service of Nepal Campus Church.  I do appreciate your prayer and great support for the LORD's work in Nepal.

"For when I preach the gospel, I can't boast, since I am compelled to preach.  Woe to me if I don't preach the gospel" 1 Corinthians 9:16.

When we were doing preparation of our weekly evangelistic program in our church anniversary, God gave us this verse to our congregation so that we became bold in Christ and stand firmly to preach the gospel for God's glory.

According God's promise our mighty God was with us in all these programs.

Before we had printed 400 invitation cards to invite university and colleges students on Saturday worship service but when we went to TRIBHUWAN UNIVERSITY (Kathmandu) on Tuesday 29th July to distribute cards, many students accepted our invitation card and kept their promise to come in our church on 2nd August so that we printed again 500 cards and distributed another colleges on Wednesday in Kathmandu.  We collected their names and cell numbers on Tuesday and Wednesday who were interested to join with us.

University Students attending the Nepal Campus Church on its 3rd Anniversary
University Students attending the Nepal Campus Church on its 3rd Anniversary
We did continue praying on Tuesday and Friday, tried call them to make confirm to come to our church on Saturday and doing all other preparations.

When we were calling them, we found more than 100 students and Shineland Pre-school and Day Care Centre children's parents ready to come to our church on Saturday.  Our church hall was too small so we asked the LORD that how do we manage all these people.  We came to conclusion that we need to find another bigger place than our church.

There is a KisMis Banquet near our church.  We did request to give this place to worship on Saturday to Banquet owner.  He is not a Christian but our mighty God spoke in his heart and he gave us permission to do worship service in this banquet.  Praise the LORD.  We paid rent for six hours.

In our preparation God blessed us and God sent 150 adult people (except children) on Saturday.  There were more than 100 students from the university and different colleges.  We sang some Christian gospel songs and I preached God's word.  When I finished my preaching, God gave me chance to share my testimony.  It was such blessed worship service of our loving Lord.

After the worship service in snacks time we asked the people that how many of you want to come in our church on next Saturday.  There are 13 new people have promised to come in our church on 9th August worship service.  This day we will distribute bible to them.  9th August Saturday is also very important Saturday for us.  Please pray for these new people who have promised to us.

Biratnagar Mission Trip
Biratnagar Mission Trip
Many thank for your prayer for the LORD's work in Nepal.  I do appreciate your prayer and great support for us.

Uma Sharma reports that he has only just got back from Biratnagar which is on the far east of Nepal.  We were able to fund this mission where he took a team of evangelists trained in Christianity Explained who were invited to train others also in this approach in evangelism.  It was apparently very successful and they were received with genuine enthusiasm and encouragement.  It seems that Nepal is becoming very open to the Gospel after many years of civil war.

Uma briefly reports the following:

Greetings from Nepal

Thank you very much for your continue prayer for "Biratnagar CE Training".  It was so blessed and pastor and leader are very committed to use this course in their churches in Bible study.

Just Today 18th morning I safely arrived at Kathmandu from Biratnagar and I am excited to send very briefly report and some photo of this training so that I am sending it.

The Christian gospel is spreading rapidly in Nepal and Hindu Nationalists are doing anything To stop it.

Uma reports that direct persecution is politically difficult to implement when there is a widespread people movement towards Christ. However, indirect methods of persecution such as charging exorbitant rents that would be used for Christian work is very difficult to deal with. Uma has a Few more months left in his contract but this will be a big challenge when he has to renegotiate rent for the buildings that he has at the moment. Please pray that facilities will be available to them for reasonable rents. As soon as they can get their own buildings purchased or built the better it will be.

 Darjeeling Hills Bible School

Rev. Dr Kamal Rai reports that the Darjeeling Hills Bible School, which was begun when PresAid of the Presbyterian Church of Australia through IRFA was able to raise a substantial gift through the Christmas appeal, is being redeveloped.  This enabled a library and classrooms to be built which has paved the way for others to assist with other redevelopment projects.  The student body has grown a little bit, but the faithful Reformed emphasis of the Bible School has been very clearly followed.  There was a time when loose evangelicalism reigned supreme, but now this school is getting a reputation for being faithfully Reformed, with strong Biblical foundations, and is resolute in its desire to uphold these standards.

Rev. Dr Rai reports in the following statement that is very encouraging:

Nepali DHBS 2014 students with Dr Rai (R)t
Nepali DHBS 2014 Students with Dr Rai (R)

Mirik is situated only three miles inside India from the eastern border of Nepal.  The original missionary body that came to Mirik was World Mission Prayer League (WMPL) and when Nepal was closed to missionary work could meet hundreds people from Nepal every day who came to Mirik bazaar for shopping.  They preached them the Gospel of salvation, and gave them medicines and tracts.  They became very effective witnesses for Christ there.  In 1954 Rev. Roy Phillip Hagen and his wife Alma came and establish Darjeeling Hills Bible School.

WMPL is a Faith Mission that does not solicit fund like other missionary organizations.  It follows the pattern of Hudson Taylor of Inland China Mission.  All it does is to circulate prayer letters among their like-minded friends describing the needs of its mission.  Whatever amount of donation it receives by the end of the month will be shared among the workers.  Hence, this organization has very simple way of ministry.  Perhaps because of the lack of funds the missionaries constructed simple and temporary wooden cottages in the campus.

When I [Dr Rai] came to Mirik in 1982 to serve here as DHBS Principal, there was not a single permanent building in the campus.  In 1994 during its fortieth anniversary we could build a small permanent building for office purpose with the financial help of WMPL.  In 1998 we received ten thousand pound from TEAR FUND, London and with that amount we could build two cottages.  One to be used as Principal's quarter and the other for matron's quarter.  In 2002 we received a grant of Rs. 3000,000.00 from the Dawrpui Presbyterian Church of Mizoram and Mizoram Synod Mission Board for the construction of two class-room building.  With that amount we laid a very strong foundation of multi-storeyed building hoping that in future God would provide fund to build other floors.  After 10 years our Faithful God provided AU$ 33,000.00 from India Reformed Fellowship of the Presbyterian Church of Australia.  Now we have a 3,400 sq. ft. size building with a big hall and three class rooms of 400 sq ft. each.  Its picture is given below.  For finishing and laying kota stones on the staircase we gratefully received US$ 10,000.00 from WMPL.

New Classrooms and Library Facility
New Classrooms and Library Facility

On behalf of the Board of Management of the Bible School I would like to express my sincere gratitude to IRFA and Rev. Richard Wilson for this generous grant.  This is the major project in our school campus and it has solved our classrooms and Library problems.  Surely in near future we shall have books collected for study and reference purposes in this hall.  Further, we are grateful to Rev. Richard Wilson for discovering us in this remote corner of the Himalayan belt of North-east India and helping us in our curriculum.  Whenever he visits us for over a week we arrange special lectures for him to deliver on important Christian doctrines from our Reformed perspective.  Both students and teachers have been benefitted by his ministry.  We sorry to miss his lectures this term because of ill health but look forward to seeing him early next year.  I believe that it could be mutually beneficial if some kind to memorandum of mission partnership between IRFA and DHBS was executed in near future.  The second floor of this building was constructed with the donation mentioned above by the India Reformed Fellowship of the Presbyterian Church of Australia.  We are planning to have the third floor also built upon.  If we can make it our plan for as passed by the Mirik Municipality will be completed.  We shall still need another four rooms to conduct both the regular and Special Training Programmes from time to time.  This year we have started with 14 candidates.

The Lord also provided US$ 23.000.00 from the Presbyterian Church South Korea through Rev. Dr. Sang Soo Jeon for the construction of a staff quarter that was demolished by the earthquake. We could complete this project. This year the church again sent another 20,000.00 for the construction of the first floor. The work is in progress now. Dr. Jeon has also promised to send another $12,000.00 in the second instalment and we hope it will be enough to complete the second floor. We are planning to use this building for teacher's quarter and boys' dorm.

We have been praying for the following needs of the Bible School.  The most urgent is the celebration for the Diamond Jubilee of the Bible School on November 27, 28 and 29, 2014.  On 27th and 28th there will be a two day seminar on the Mission of the Church.  Rev. Dr Jeon will conduct the seminar.  The last day i.e. 29th will be the Grand Finale of the Jubilee Celebration along with the 60th Graduation Exercises of the School when 18 students will receive their certificates.  For this we shall need $ 10,000.00.  We have received 50% of the budgeted amount from WMPL.  In near future we shall need a hostel building for 50 girls, a kitchen cum dining hall and a building for general education.  For these projects we shall need US$ 400,000.00.  These projects have become our concern for prayer.  We would like to request our friends, mission partners and well-wishers to share this concern with us.

Covenant Reformed Assemblies, Ramachandrapuram:

IRFA has been able to give advice so that the structures of Biblical Church Government are put in place and exploitation is minimised.  Pastor Moses and Hepsiba report that their VBS programme this year went extremely well in all church centres.  The relationship with the Cornerstone URCNA as their 'partner church' is now working extremely well.  We are working together to set up a 'Rural Church Building Trust' where churches can borrow money to build churches and pastors residences where they will have a plan of repayment so other churches can use the money on the same basis.  'PresAid' has raised just over $10,000 to form the foundation for this fund that represents the beginning of this vital project.

Pastor Moses reports as follows:

"The righteous flourish like the palm tree,

He shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon.

Those who are planted in the house of the LORD;

Shall flourish in the courts of our God" (Ps 92: 12, 13).

A brief report on three VBS (Vacation Bible School) programmes - 2014:

Every year in the summer vacation we conduct Vacation Bible School programs in three different areas with a special for school Children.  This year the theme of the VBS was 'My Fellowship with Jesus'.

  • 5-7 May 2014 In Dwarapudi Village
  • 8-10 May 2014 in R.CPuram Town,
  • 26-28 May 2014 in U.K.Palli  village.

Timings: 8 am to 12 pm. We taught six lessons and new songs for each programme (two lessons each day) as follows.

Lesson 1) David and Jonathan 2) Slaves in Babylon 3) The Garden of Gethsemane: The Crucifixion of Jesus 4) The resurrection of Jesus Christ 5) The death of Stephen 6) The imprisonment of Paul and Silas.

As we were leading the programmes in the villages, many parents of the local children heard the Gospel as well.  It was also a great joy for us to teach the children and young people.  The Lord protected all the children as they travel and walk on the roads to and from VBS.  It was a memorable experience for us to see the children remember the songs and lessons we taught last year.  We believe that the Word of God is being planted in the hearts of the young ones on this occasion.  Though it was a hot summer time the children attended on time and enjoyed the programmes.

About Brother Anand in PTS

[Brother Anand is preparing for the pastoral ministry at PTS, and

VBS class Ramachandrapuram
VBS class Ramachandrapuram

IRFA would like to be able to sponsor Anand whilst he is doing his

training.  He will become a church-planter for CRA.  He is an absolutely wonderful candidate.] RW

Brother Anand at PTS is doing well.  After joining at PTS before the admission into M.Div programme his English standard and Bible knowledge were not up to the required level.  According to their rule he has to acquire 75% in the examinations they conduct before the admission.  But he acquired 62% only, so he was put in M.Div pre-theology programme for this year with the same fees.  And after that in the first month he suffered with head ache, since he was not accustomed with the local cold weather.  By God's grace now he is doing well.  We all encouraged him mentally and spiritually so that he may endure the situations.  Right now he is OK.

Attacks on the sheep

In earlier weeks Satan has disturbed some of our believers by using the charismatic groups in their personal dealings in their daily life.  We are surrounded by lots of cultic churches.  They always attack the sheep.  They teach wrong teachings like anointing with oil once in a month, pronouncing healing on people.  These kinds of deceptions are attempts to stealing our sheep and are sometimes successful.  Such times really hard for us.  We are accustomed to face such situations.  People are often attracted by false teachings when they are in time of distress or pain.  I am not discouraged by these situations but I share with you so that you may pray for us in this respect.

Women's ministry in Yerupalli Congregation

My wife Hepsiba is doing well and by the grace of God she is doing better with her throat infection.  Every Tuesday at 10 AM to 12 PM she is conducting women's meeting among women in Yerupalli village.  By this she is able to reach some non-believers and preach the gospel and strengthening the CRA believers.  We appreciate your partial help towards her new scooter.  Please pray for her that God may give her wisdom among the women and on the road as well.  We would appreciate prayer support for our CRA Ministry and families.
