LUT responds to countywide weather emergencies
Washed out culvert on Timber Road
Washington County Department of Land Use & Transportation employees have been working round the clock in response to flooding, landslides, and downed trees caused by heavy rains and high winds. By 9 am. Monday (Dec. 7) LUT's Department Operations Center (DOC) was activated to respond to flood impacts. The DOC will remain active for 24-hour operations until further notice.

 

Crews are anticipating clearing downed trees and posting more flood signs in the wake of the heavy rains and high winds forecasted to end sometime this morning (Dec. 9). The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch effective through Thursday (Dec. 10), with rain predicted through Saturday (Dec. 12).

The most serious County road damage as of Tuesday evening has been a culvert washed out on Timber Road, 1/2 mile south of Strassel Road, about 2 miles north of OR 6/Wilson River Highway on Monday (Dec. 7). The road is closed indefinitely, while options for replacement are being assessed. No one was on the road when the culvert washed out.

Open House

Dec. 10: 198th Avenue project open house

The public is invited to stop by Hazeldale Elementary School, 20080 SW Farmington Road, any time between 5 and 7 p.m. to learn more about the proposal to widen 198th Avenue between Farmington Road and TV Highway. No formal presentation is planned. The project calls for three lanes with continuous bike lanes and sidewalks. Construction is anticipated to occur in 2018.  Project webpage   Media release

Be Seen. Be Safe.

LUT staff promotes TriMet safety program 

LUT staff are participating in TriMet's Be Seen Be Safe program from 6-7:30 a.m. Dec. 16.  Teams will be at busy TriMet stations in the County, handing out blinking safety lights to encourage TriMet riders to brighten up their attire to improve their visibility while walking and biking to transit during the darker fall and winter months.  

LUT teams will be at Beaverton Transit Center, Elmonica Station, Fair Complex/Hillsboro Airport Station, Tuality Hospital Station, Hillsboro Central Station, and Hatfield Government Center. Participants will be wearing brightly colored safety vests, reflectors and blinking lights to encourage riders to increase their visibility and stay safe.  TriMet Be Seen Be Safe website

County ongoing roadwork projects:

RESCHEDULED: Brookwood at U.S. 26 daytime lane restrictions

Installation of medians on the Brookwood Parkway/Helvetia Road at U.S. 26 overpass has been rescheduled to 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Thursday and Friday (Dec. 10-11). Traffic will be one lane in each direction; travelers should expect delays. ODOT crews rescheduled the work due to weather.  Project website

There are road maintenance and construction projects happening throughout the county. Be sure to check www.wc-roads.com for the most current roadwork information. All paving work is weather-dependent and schedules may be adjusted due to changes in the weather or for other unforeseen circumstances.

Neighborhood Meetings for Proposed Developments:
NOTE: This information is provided as a courtesy only. Developers are required to hold Neighborhood Meetings prior to submitting certain land use applications. A developer may also choose to hold such a meeting voluntarily if it is not required by county code. These meetings are intended to serve as a forum for the developer, affected CPOs, and property owners within the required notification buffer (500 feet in urban areas; 1,000 feet in rural areas) to discuss the proposal prior to the developer submitting an application to the county. County staff do not schedule these meetings and do not attend them. For more information, see the Mandatory Neighborhood Meeting & Mailings Requirements.
