John 20:19-31

Doubt is a human instinct. We often frown on or even castigate doubt when, in actuality, it's a safety mechanism for humans. Could you imagine what harm we could bring to ourselves if we never doubted?

In this Sunday's Gospel reading, Thomas doubts. He doesn't believe when the other disciples tell him how Jesus appeared to them while Thomas was gone - fully resurrected.

But a funny thing happens. Thomas doesn't get "kicked out" as a disciple. The other disciples don't say, "You don't believe like we do, so you're not welcome here." And most importantly, Jesus comes back later again, especially for Thomas and gives him the proof he needs to believe.

Jesus accepts doubters because doubt is human. He loves doubters so much that he offers us bits of proof of his love and existence. And He gives us the Holy Spirit to further nurture us in His earthly absence.

Come to St. Timothy's this Sunday - and bring your doubts. Jesus will be there to love and accept them and you.
