Generations United in the Boston Globe

The article, "Hidden joys of the 'Sandwich Generation,'" which focuses on multigenerational living includes a quote from Donna. The article also features two households, starting with the LaRock and Bruno families, of Sutton, MA, who have four generations under one roof. Then there's the Guardia Family who moved Grandma Irene into their Somerville home 17 years ago. Addressing these arrangements, Donna said, "Families may have come together because of [economic] need, but they stay together because they want to." Read the full article

Canada Day - July 1st

Yesterday, Canadians throughout their country's provinces and territories celebrated this national holiday. On that day, in 1867, Canada signed the Constitution Act (formerly the British North American Act), making it a new federation with its own constitution. In honor of this holiday, we highlight the Legacy Project, a learning and social innovation project in Whitchurch-Stouffville, Ontario, that works with children, youth, adults and elders through their three banner programs. Generations United in Reston, Virginia

Our Program Director Leah Bradley met with Robert Simon, the founder of Reston, to discuss ways in which communities can intentionally be designed in addition to using existing facilities and structures to connect residents of all ages. Reston was recognized as a MetLife Foundation/Generations United 2014 Best Intergenerational Community. Learn more about our recent winners and those from 2013 and 2012.

Bipartisan Agreement Addresses Child Sex Trafficking, Increases Adoption and Improves Child Support Collections

Last week, the House and Senate passed the Preventing Sex Trafficking and Strengthening Families Act, which has a number of protections that include: requiring state child welfare agencies to promote "normalcy" for youth in foster care so these children can more easily participate in age appropriate social, scholastic and enrichment activities; improving the adoption incentives program and extending it for three years; and creating a task force to explore ways to improve the effectiveness of the child support enforcement program. Learn more

Intergeneration Month: September and All Ages Together Campaign

As Intergeneration Month: September approaches, it's not too early to begin thinking of ways to celebrate the connecting of generations during September, along with special support and acknowledgment for Grandparents Day on September 7th.  Intergeneration Foundation encourages special celebrations throughout the Month of September - thoughtful action every day - in any way that intentionally connects generations. That's why they launched the "All Ages Together Campaign," a new effort of collecting and posting on their website, ways in which generations come together.  Share your personal celebration plans and find new ways to celebrate Intergeneration Month.
