CAIR-DFW Leads Coalition March and Rally 'United Against Racism and Hate' on Saturday

(DALLAS/FORT WORTH, TX, 12/11/2015) – On Saturday December 12, the Dallas/Fort Worth chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-DFW), in partnership with a coalition of religious, political and social justice organizations will hold a rally and march called "United Against Racism and Hate."

Since the tragic attacks in Paris and San Bernardino, and Donald Trump's Islamophobic statements, anti-Muslim incidents and hate crimes are on the rise.

"Right now, we're getting multiple hate crime reports every single day from the Dallas/Fort Worth area and across the country," said Alia Salem, executive director of CAIR-DFW. "In these very tough times, we must all come together as people of conscience from all walks of life to join hands to proclaim that racism and intolerance have no comfort in our community."

Threats against North Texas Muslims on the rise

"Dr. King stated 'Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.' It is imperative that all Americans who love freedom stand with the Muslim community as they encounter islamophobia masquerading as patriotism. Many great men and women have fought and died for our religious freedoms, and we cannot remain silent at this important hour," said Dr. Michael W. Waters, Joy Tabernacle AME Chrch, Dallas.

The program will start off with a March from Fair Park to Martin Luther King community center where the mobilization rally with speeches from organizers and community leaders will take place. There will also be action sign-ups, voter registration.

CAIR is America's largest Muslim civil liberties and advocacy organization. Its mission is to enhance the understanding of Islam, encourage dialogue, protect civil liberties, empower American Muslims, and build coalitions that promote justice and mutual understanding.
