Matthew 28:1-10
"God is good - all the time. And all the time, God is good" the popular saying goes.
But what happens when things are not good all the time? Where is God in the midst of the catastrophic accident, devastating illness, the unexpected layoff, or the death of a loved one?
Mary Magdalene and the other Mary undergo a similar situation in this Easter Sunday's Gospel reading. They go to the place where their friend Jesus was hastily buried in order to better prepare the body for burial. They go looking for a body - and are upset to find that it's missing. Resurrection never enters their thoughts until the angel appears and announces it to them, along with the command, "Go and tell others."
Sometimes we have difficulty finding Jesus is certain situations, but it may be because we're looking for Jesus one way, when He wants to be revealed as another.
Sometimes we realize later that in that moment, we were looking for a crucified Jesus when what we were missing was a resurrected Jesus who revealed Himself even in the direst of situations.
Even before this Easter Sunday, let us "go and tell others" about how Jesus has revealed himself to us, even in the worst situations.
Let us invite others to share with us at St. Timothy's this Sunday the joy of a resurrected Jesus.
