Judith Middleton Kroon fund goes to a homebased rescue organization to pull an at-risk dog or cat from a shelter where their life is in jeopardy. Designed to assist Michigan Certified Rescued groups with costs associated with senior pets and those with medical and behavior issues, the fund has recently helped these pets:
Maple, a female
black lab/border collie mix was designated by a municipal shelter as Rescue Only for behavior issues: too shy and timid. She is working on building confidence and trust while in foster care. Without a rescue group willing to pull her and keep her in foster care, Maple's future was
precarious.
Ziggy, a male cat from a city shelter, had been sick for months with chronic diarrhea. He has had many tests and medication and is very slowly improving. His foster mom hung in there and spent months cleaning up after him. He no longer has to be caged and gets to play with other cats. His rescue group hopes he will be available for adoption very soon.
Ginger, a female dog from a shelter on the west side of the state, was in pretty bad shape, suffering with fleas and heartworm positive. Ginger has been in foster care getting healthy and learning to trust people. She went through 2 treatments for heartworm and was given a clean bill of health in October. Without a rescue group willing to foster Ginger during her treatment, she wouldn't have lasted in the shelter.
