David and Anne

 Dear Families and Supporters,

The Board of Badger Childhood Cancer Network would like to formally announce the retirement of long-time Executive Director Anne Spurgeon.

Anne co-founded BCCN shortly after the diagnosis of her own son's cancer in 1996.  After making the decision to depart a PhD program in support of a higher calling, Anne became devoted to providing enduring social, economic, and educational support to families of children with cancer. It was then that she and her co-founders set upon a mission, "...that no child or family ever fight cancer alone." Since the founding of our organization, Anne has worked tirelessly to fulfill that mission, often going above and beyond to ensure that each family was served.

Anne's contributions will always be valued and remembered, as will her hard work, commitment, and dedication.

In response to Anne's retirement, we are excited to announce the hiring of Susannah Peterson, who comes to us from the Autism Society of South Central- Wisconsin where she served as Executive Director for several years. Anne and Susannah will spend the next several months working side by side as the leadership is responsibly transitioned.

Anne and her husband David Woods will continue to serve BCCN as active supporters and volunteers; together lending us their unique gifts and talents. We wish them both well as they explore retirement together.

In the spirit of hope,

Kerry Frank

President - Badger Childhood Cancer Network

Arrows For Cancer 2014

The Arrows for Cancer 2014 3-D Archery Tournament was a very successful fundraiser!  Nearly 100 people competed on the outdoor course for prizes and trophies, and amateur archers got to have free lessons on the indoor course on Saturday morning. Many thanks to organizers Steve and Connie Anderson, their great volunteers, and sponsors Oregon Sportsman's Club, American Transmission Company, Stark Automotive and MG&E Foundation!

It has been my great pleasure and honor to support kids with cancer and blood disorders and their families over the last 15+ years, first as a board member, then as Executive Director.  Like so many parents, I wanted to give back to honor the battle of my own child and to be there for those who find themselves on this difficult journey that taught us so much.  I have come to know hundreds of children and teens, and I am constantly impressed by their courage and resilience, and delighted by their ability to find joy and live in the moment, even on some pretty rough days.  I know that I am a stronger person and have a better perspective on what's important in life -and what isn't - from their example.

My job has been to ask people to help fulfill our important mission, so I'd be letting you down if I didn't get in one last plea.  Please reach out to people you know, forward our email newsletter, share the link to our website, encourage people to volunteer - help spread the word about the great things we do!   Connect BCCN to businesses, organizations and individuals who are inspired to make a difference for these amazing kids and their families as they face the battle of a lifetime.

Thanks so much for all your support!

Wishing you peace, joy and good health-

Anne Spurgeon
