Be Proud, Be Responsible - The Westland Youth Assistance Program and the Taylor Teen Health Center is hosting a "Be Proud! Be Responsible!" workshop for youth. Be Proud, Be Responsible! is a pregnancy and HIV/AIDS prevention program for adolescent youth ages 12-18. It is interactive, fun, and most importantly, it works.

The next workshop will take place Saturday, July 26 from 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. at the Westland Library, located at 6123 Central City Parkway, . All participants will get a FREE snack in the morning, FREE lunch and FREE prizes! For more information or to register, please call the Westland Youth Assistance Program at (734) 467-7904.

Scheduled Upcoming Civic Meetings - Residents are invited to attend the upcoming City meetings. Below is a list of the meetings with their date, time and location.

- There will be a meeting of the Downtown Development Authority on Thursday, July 31 at 12:00 p.m. at Westland City Hall, located at 36601 Ford Rd.

Shoe Carnival Ribbon Cutting - The grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony of the new Shoe Carnival location will be held on Thursday, July 31 at 4:00 p.m. The new location is at Westland Mall on the Wayne Road Side. Join Mayor Wild and other local dignitaries as they celebrate another great business coming to Westland.

Garbage Collection Meeting - The City of Westland has scheduled one more meeting this month, which will focus on the new sanitation and garbage collection program. The meeting is open to the public. The date, time, and location is as follows:

-Tuesday, July 29, 6 - 7 pm: Friendship Center, 1119 Newburgh Rd.

Residents can attend this meeting to learn more and ask any questions they might have on the new program. You may also visit the FAQ page and informational pages on the City website at: MyNewBin.CityofWestland.com.

Clerk's Office Has Saturday Hours for Absentee Ballots - The Clerk's Office will be open Saturday, August 2 from 9 am - 2 pm to issue Absentee Ballots. The Clerk can issue an Absentee Ballot until 4 pm on Monday, August 4. Please look at your plans on Election Day. Will you be away from Westland even if you will be in a neighboring community? Will your student voter be away at school? If so, you can elect to get an absentee ballot application by calling the Clerk's Office at (734)467-3185 or by downloading the application at the State if Michigan Voter Information Center at http://www.mi.gov/documents/AbsentVoterBallot_105377_7.pdf.

Dollars and Sense Expo - Do you want to be more financially savvy? Good News: The Wayne Metro Community Action Agency will be hosting a Dollar$ and $en$e Expo Thursday, August 7. The event is FREE and open to the public, and will run from 1 - 6 pm at the Wayne County Community College Downriver Campus located at 21000 Northline Rd, Taylor, MI 48180.

Westland Farmer's Market Held Every Thursday - The Westland Farmer's Market will be held from 3 - 7 p.m. every Thursday in the City Hall Parking Lot, located at 36601 Ford Road. This is the ultimate site for farmers, growers and producers to sell their own products directly to the public. Residents now have the opportunity to catch a FREE ride to the market at the following locations and times. *All times are approximate and dependent on weather, traffic, available space, etc.
