MISS AFRICA USA PAGEANT.

Miss Africa USA 2014 at the Strathmore, Maryland
Greetings from Miss Africa USA Pageant.

The 9th Annual Miss Africa USA Pageant which took place over the weekend at the beautiful 5 Star Event Center, The Strathmore Music Center in Rockville attracted hundreds of Africans and Friends of Africa diaspora. There were several Diplomats from various African Embassies who attended the event to witness it first hand and support the delegates.  

 

The Event was graced by His Excellency Robert Van Lierop from the United Nations and Her Excellency Mrs Mulamula, Ambassador of Tanzania to the United States of America. Other Dignitaries present included Ms Iman Awald, Director of the Governor's Commission on African Affairs for the State of Maryland, Officials from the DC Mayor's Office, Ms Jan Duplain from Cultural Tourism DC Organization, Ms Tee Thompson from African Trade Business Center, a host of visiting Queens and Title holders.The event kicked off at 7.30pm and was hosted by African Celebrities Chris Atoh from Ghana and Afro Pop Singer Helene Faussart from Cameroon.

The Delegates competed in various categories including: African Traditional Girl, Parade of Nations, African High Fashion, Public Speaking through Platform Presentation, Evening Gown Parade, Talent and Interviews.  It was a tough job for the Judges as all the finalists brought out their Best.

Ethiopian Beauty and Advocate for the Youth, Meron Wudneh has been crowned Miss Africa USA 2014. Meron is 25 years old and she is a resident of Montgomery County, Maryland. She is a recent  graduate of Bowie State University where she studied Health Sciences.  She currently works for Montgomery County Government where she helps develop programs for the youth. In her spare time she plays Basketball and she does some Runway Modeling in New York.  Meron has spent time abroad working with Orphans in Equatorial Guinea and most recently spent 6 months in Ethiopia to launch her Project "Kids First Ethiopia" which she will now expand to include "Kids First Africa and America".  Her goal is to support children Orphaned by HIV AIDS, by helping them receive good quality education.

Special appreciation to  1st Princess of 2013 and Deputy Miss Africa USA 2013 for Crowning the new Queen in absence of Out going Queen Kathy Onwu, who could not make it for the ceremony due to circumstances. Miss Alice Gyamfi has been exceptional through the year, a dynamic and very powerful advocate for education has gone above and beyond her role as Deputy Queen through out the year. We have not seen the last of Alice Gyamfi, she is an exceptional young lady, very graceful, extremely humble and respectful, these attributes will open many more Doors for Alice. God Bless you Alice Gyamfi. The Pageant cannot thank you enough.

The Gorgeous and Very Dynamic Miss Uganda USA Hasifa Kivumbi is the 1st Princess and Deputy Miss Africa USA 2014. It was a tough call for the Judges as the East Africans topped the Charts. Miss Hasifa Kivumbi is on a mission to provide Clean Water for Uganda, Clean Water for Africa. That is her platform and this young Lady is making strides with her project already. We will keep you posted. She made Uganda Proud.  Congratulations.

Miss Africa USA Top 10, announced after Parade of Nations Competition: from left to right, Miss Kenya, Miss Ethiopia, Miss Liberia, Miss Guinee, Miss Uganda, Miss Somalia, Miss Nigeria, Miss Tanzania, Miss Cameroon and Miss Ghana. Congratulations to the top 10. 8 others were eliminated at this point. The Top 10 competed in Talent showcase.

Congratulations to the Top 5 of Miss Africa USA Pageant. Miss Nigeria, Miss Ethiopia, Miss Ghana, Miss Tanzania and Miss Uganda. The top 5 were selected after the Talent Competition. The Top 5 were interviewed. Interview Questions sort their opinion on the recent USA-Africa Leadership Summit Held by President Obama in Washington DC, The Recent outbreak of Ebola in Africa, the situation of the school girls who were kidnapped in Nigeria still unresolved and African Women  as Leaders of their Nations. Again it was not easy for the Judges but they did an excellent Job and we have a Queen who is ready to get to work and uplift Africa.

The Miss Africa USA Pageant wishes to thank all sponsors who made this event possible this year and hope to get your support again next year as we will be celebrating the 10th Anniversary in Grand Style.  Thanks to the Judges for a marvelous job in electing the Queen.  Our hearts are with all 18 Delegates of the Pageant, you all were amazing, thanks for your patience and understanding during the challenging moments but most of all thanks for being great advocates for the voiceless. The Pageant will continue to support all active platform projects and share with the community.  To the awesome Team Miss Africa USA, it was almost a flawless production except for the few technical difficulties but this pageant operated on the next level of professionalism. Thanks to all Team #MissAfricaUSA members and volunteers.

Very special note of thanks to Elevive Textiles for sponsoring the African Fashion Segment of the Competition with the most gorgeous Ankara Fabrics.  The girls looked fabulous in their designs. We thank you and hope to work with you again and again.

Shout out to Equanimity Magazine, Inveevo TV for your support. Shout out to the Webmaster Fiango Technologies for working under pressure and still doing such a fabulous job. DJ Chick and friends thank you for hosting the girls and throwing a welcome party, they all had fun.

Prizes are supported by Irene West Designs, Fashion Designer Sydney Smith, Former Miss Africa USA Nyasha Zimucha, of course Arik Airlines will fly the Queen and 1st Princess to Africa for their Charity Mission Trips. 

The Governor of Maryland, Honorable Martin O'Malley issued a Citation to each Contestant in recognition of their service to their Communities. The Citation was presented by Iman Awad, Director of The Governor's Commission on African Affairs and accepted by Lady Kate Ndi who is a Commissioner for African Affairs and the Founder of the Miss Africa USA Pageant.  Once again congratulations to all 18 finalists of the 2014 Miss Africa USA Pageant.
