DaVita India Teammates Provide Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) Screenings in Nepal |
Bridge of Life Completes First CKD Screening for Nepalese
Six DaVita India teammate volunteers screened 2,282 children and adults while also providing preventative education on CKD in Nepal in early December with Bridge of Life (BOL).
BOL served five communities around Kathmandu, presented to Kist Medical College, visited both the Prime Minister and the President, and held a press conference with local news outlets.
Stanley Thomson, a dialysis nurse and DaVita India teammate, said, "Just to be a part of a team working for such a noble cause (screening the poor people of Nepal who have no access to basic health) gives me a lot of satisfaction. I will go back to India knowing that I have played a small but vital role in helping the people understand their health status and the importance of keeping their vital parameters in control...Thank you DaVita and Bridge of Life."

Volunteers Assist Guatemalan Kidney Donors |
Four DaVita HealthCare Partners teammate volunteers traveled to Guatemala City, Guatemala with Bridge of Life (BOL) in early December and
treated 41 kidney donors
who previously donated a kidney to a child, providing consultations with physicians, dietitians and social workers in conjunction with BOL's in-country partner, Fundanier.
This program provides a continuity of care to patients by returning annually to Guatemala City to offer primary care services and health education to kidney donors. In doing so, BOL has helped to strengthen a support network among the donors with shared experiences of what it's like to donate a kidney.
"My experience in Guatemala as a volunteer with Bridge of Life is one that I will never forget," said Meredith Larsen, Dietitian, DaVita Kidney Care. "The people in Guatemala are so appreciative and kind -- they stole my heart...I was struck by how deeply they care for their children; everything they do is with them in mind...I feel that our team really came together and had some great ideas for how to continue to improve this mission."
