Cleveland Clinic Florida's Raul Rosenthal, MD, Named President of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery
 
Raul Rosenthal, MD, Chief of Staff, Director of Cleveland Clinic Florida's (Weston based) Bariatric and Metabolic Institute, and Chairman of the Department of General Surgery, has been named President of the Executive Council of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS). Dr. Rosenthal, who will serve a one-year term, was installed during the annual ASMBS meeting in Los Angeles, Calif., held on November 2-6, 2015.
 
"Dr. Rosenthal is a passionate advocate who is dedicated to improving health and wellness by lessening the burden of obesity and its related diseases," said Wael Barsoum, MD, President of Cleveland Clinic Florida. "We are proud of his efforts to foster collaboration among his colleagues locally, nationally and internationally to ensure access to treatment for obesity."
 
Under Dr. Rosenthal's leadership, Cleveland Clinic Florida's Bariatric and Metabolic Institute has been named a Center of Excellence by the American College of Surgeons and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgeons and has full accreditation by The Fellowship Council in Minimally Invasive and Bariatric Surgery. It is the largest bariatric program in Florida and also one of the largest training programs in the United States, mentoring clinical and research fellows on a yearly basis.

West Boca Medical Center is proud to earn an "A" Hospital Safety Score from The Leapfrog Group, a non-profit organization that provides healthcare information to consumers.
 
Bi-annually, The Leapfrog Group assigns "A," "B," "C," "D" or "F" scores to U.S. hospitals based on their performance in keeping patients safe from preventable medical errors, injuries, accidents and infections. West Boca Medical Center's "A" score is part of The Leapfrog Group's fall 2015 report and can be found in the latest update to the Hospital Safety Score.

OPKO Share Trade Higher on Earnings News

Shares of Miami based OPKO Health rose nearly 8 percent Tuesday after the pharmaceutical and diagnostics company reported third-quarter earnings exceeding expectations.
 
After the bell on Monday, OPKO reported a third quarter profit of $128.2 million, or 25 cents a share, after posting a loss in the third quarter last year. Quarterly revenue was $143 million, up sharply from $19.8 million a year ago. Analysts were expecting the company to report a loss of 1 cent per share on revenue of $132.99 million.
