Raul Rosenthal, MD, Chief of Staff, Director of
Cleveland Clinic Florida's (Weston based)
Bariatric and Metabolic Institute, and Chairman of the
Department of General Surgery, has been named President of the Executive Council of the
American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS). Dr. Rosenthal, who will serve a one-year term, was installed during the annual ASMBS meeting in Los Angeles, Calif., held on November 2-6, 2015.
"Dr. Rosenthal is a passionate advocate who is dedicated to improving health and wellness by lessening the burden of obesity and its related diseases," said
Wael Barsoum, MD, President of Cleveland Clinic Florida. "We are proud of his efforts to foster collaboration among his colleagues locally, nationally and internationally to ensure access to treatment for obesity."
Under Dr. Rosenthal's leadership, Cleveland Clinic Florida's Bariatric and Metabolic Institute has been named a
Center of Excellence by the
American College of Surgeons and the
American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgeons and has full accreditation by
The Fellowship Council in Minimally Invasive and Bariatric Surgery. It is the largest bariatric program in Florida and also one of the largest training programs in the United States, mentoring clinical and research fellows on a yearly basis.
