Pastor's Message
Dear Friends in Christ,

When Jesus was 12 years old, his parents brought him to the temple "as was the custom."  In the midst of the routine, Jesus comes into the temple transforming what was a routine Passover time into a never-to-be-forgotten experience.  There is no time in the Church year like Christmas.   This Sunday we will have another look at Jesus' Incarnation--the Word made flesh.  Today God is with us if we will be open to His testimony.  He comes to us with words too deep for even Mary, his own mother to comprehend.  May the Lord bless your worship in the coming year, that your heart may be blessed through the God's presence.

Blessed New Year to you in Christ!

Pastor James L Kroonblawd

Church Directory
A 2016 Church Directory will be printed and sent electronically in January.  Contact the church office if there is cell phone or email information on file that you prefer to have unpublished.
A few spots left for cooking brunch at TLO and serving at Ronald McDonald Houses in St. Paul.  Meet at the kitchen January 2 at 9 am to cook brunch.  We will transport the food to the hospitals and begin serving at 11:30.  This would be a great family activity.

Special Tax-Free IRA Gift Announcement
For those aged 70 1/2 or older, it is once again possible to make tax-favored charitable gifts from traditional and Roth IRA accounts.

On Friday, December 18, the President signed into law legislation that retroactively extend the charitable IRA rollover for 2015 AND makes this provision permanent for future years.  A total of up to $100,000 can be transferred directly from a traditional or Roth IRA to one or more qualified charities, such as the Trinity Lone Oak Lutheran Church, and/or Trinity Lone Oak Lutheran Church or school endowment funds, free from federal income tax each year.
There may also be state income tax savings.  Amounts given in this way count toward required IRA minimum withdrawal amounts for the year of the gift.  Contact your financial or tax adviser for more information

Year end contributions
If you need a convenient way to make recurring contributions or plan to make an additional gift before the end of the year, we encourage you to check out our electronic giving option. Alternately, contact the church office to ensure your gift can be credited for 2015.

16 ways how to impact your community this winter
As we approach the winter season it brings to mind the extreme cold, snow, ice, and other wintry conditions we expect to see this time of year. So grab a cup of hot chocolate and consider these creative ways people at your church can serve their community this winter.

1.  Offer to take an elderly neighbor to the store to stock up on winter supplies/groceries, or have your neighbor make a list for you to pick up while you're out.

2.  Shovel your neighbor's walkway. Or, get your exercise in for the day and do the whole street!

3.  Place salt on someone's front door steps or that neglected bit of sidewalk between houses.

4. If others lose power, offer your house as a location for cell phone/laptop charging.

5. Invite neighborhood kids/families to build snowmen if schools are cancelled.

6.  Create a free hot chocolate stand outside a busy shopping area.

On Friday January 8th at 6:30 join us for the pre-release of "Until Forever." at Emanuel Lutheran Church of Inver Grove Heights.

Until Forever is a film about the strength of love in the midst of fear, the endurance of hope in the midst of loss and the reality of faith in the midst of doubt.

Michael and Michelle's relationship is filled with love and laughter and bonded by strong faith.  But the young couple's dream of a future together is interrupted when Michael is diagnosed with a rare form of Leukemia.  Now they are confronted by circumstances that will test the boundaries of their commitment.

Based on the heroic true story of Michael and Michelle Boyum, who is from Inver Grove Heights.  Until Forever is a charming, honest and deeply moving film that will clearly communicate the hope we have in Jesus Christ.

It is free to the public and there will be time to meet the Boyum family.  Emanuel Lutheran is located at 2075 70th St. E. in Inver Grove Heights.  For more information call 651-457-3929, or look us up on the web at emanuellutheranchurch.org.
