Fairy tale ball a special tradition at CES

Every year, CES second graders participate in a fairy tale ball and parade held at the end of October. The event ends the language arts curriculum's unit on fairy tales and coincides with traditional fall festival celebrations. Before the ball, students learn simple dances in P.E. so they can be prepared for the festivities. Visit our Facebook album to see more photos.

'Trojan Old to Gold'
drive continues

The Trojan Nation Store, in conjunction with the CHS NIKE Club, is sponsoring the TROJAN OLD TO TROJAN GOLD donation drive.

Your donated items will be sold in the Trojan Nation Store. All proceeds will go directly toward the purchase of brand new Trojan spirit wear for needy Trojan students.

Donations can be dropped off during school hours to the front, attendance or vocational offices at CHS. Donations made by Nov. 20, 2015, will enter you in a drawing to win a $100 gift certificate to the Trojan Store!

Anything TROJAN is acceptable for donation.  This includes both clothing AND memorabilia.

CHS blood drive
scheduled Nov. 10

A community Red Cross blood drive, sponsored by Carrollton High School's HOSA Club, will be held Tuesday, Nov. 10, from 3 to 8 p.m. in the CHS cafeteria.

Walk-ins are welcome, but donors are encouraged to schedule an appointment by visiting redcrossblood.org and entering the sponsor code, "Trojans."

Since the blood drive is after school, participants can go directly to the CHS cafeteria. HOSA students also will be stationed to direct volunteers where to go.

Donors must have a photo ID to present. All donors will receive a T-shirt!

This survey supports
school improvement

Carrollton City schools are participating in the Georgia Parent Survey program and need your help.

The survey contains only 24 questions. You will be able to complete the survey using your personal computers, smartphones or iPads in just a matter of minutes.

All survey responses are anonymous and will be submitted directly to the Georgia Department of Education for school climate analysis.

The survey will remain open through Friday, Feb. 26.

Thank you in advance for taking time out of your busy schedule to help us in this important school improvement effort.

CES' Power Up for 30
program recognized
Carrollton Elementary School's Power Up for 30 program is featured this fall as the Georgia SHAPE "Superstar Shout-out."

Teachers Leigh Smith, Kimi Redford and Tabitha Walker received special recognition for their efforts in bringing the program to CES.

Last year, these teachers were trained in the program and piloted implementation to see whether Power Up for 30 would be a good fit for CES. The program was adopted school wide this year, with every class making sure students get an extra 30 minutes of physical activity beyond recess and P.E.

In September, this effort received the attention of First Lady Sandra Deal, who visited CES to see the program in action.

Dr. Brenda Fitzgerald, commissioner of the Georgia Department of Public Health, who accompanied Mrs. Deal Sept. 14, notes that research shows a school's decision to implement 30 minutes of physical activity daily, coupled with a healthy school nutrition program, will likely boost academic performance.

Christmas program
sponsors needed
The Carrollton City School System is looking for sponsors for this year's Christmas program to help needy families. Last year, sponsors ensured a wonderful Christmas for more than 800 children.

Sponsors will receive profiles of their assigned families that include parents' names, children's names, ages, sizes and special wants and needs. Social workers and counselors have screened these families and found them to be in need of assistance.

Sponsor forms and more information are available on the school system's website. Sponsor forms need to be returned to Carrollton Middle School, 151 Tom Reeve Dr., by Monday, Nov. 16.

For more information, contact Ryan Scroggin at CMS at 770-830-0997 Ext. 1717, or e-mail him at [email protected].
