How You've Helped Brandon
No one should have to grow up alone.

Growing up in the foster care system, Brandon, 17, almost did.  But thanks to Silver Lining Mentoring and John, his mentor, he's had a consistent guiding force in his life since he was 7 years old. Brandon says:

"Lots of people have been in and out of my life, but John is different, he's the only one who has been with me for the last 10 years."

Silver Lining Mentoring wants to thank you for your support--for enabling us to provide hope and build bonds for kids like Brandon.  We also want to remind you that you can make your annual gift today by visiting us online at silverliningmentoring.org.

On behalf of Brandon, and all of the young people we serve, thank you for making a commitment to Silver Lining Mentoring's mission. Thank you for helping us to show kids that they don't have to face life's challenges alone.

What We're Watching This Month

At Silver Lining Mentoring, one of our values is cultural responsiveness. We believe that diversity strengthens communities and we are committed to listening and responding to all voices to promote respect, compassion, and social change.  Each month, one of our Staff Members shares a resource about cultural responsiveness and our entire Staff meets together to discuss. We look forward to sharing our cultural responsiveness pieces with you in the months ahead.

This month, we watched "The Little Problem I Had Renting a House".  Many youth who have aged out of the foster care system also struggle with housing.  Since turning 18, 37% of youth who have aged out of the foster care system in Massachusetts  reported experiencing homelessness, according to A Report of the Task Force on Youth Aging Out of DSS Care a 2008 report from The Boston Foundation.
