Why we should talk about fetal tissue research

Human fetal tissue.  Even reading these three words causes a gut reaction.  There are probably many reasons for our response, but we think it has much to do with 'being human' and also with ongoing politicization of a scientific and ethical issue.  Human fetal tissue procurement has been in the news through the well-publicized video stings and subsequent social and political reactions.  In response, NWABR has been preparing to .. . End of Year Speak Up For Research Education Fund

As your passion drives your year-end contributions, we hope you'll consider giving to NWABR.  Like you, we see the possibilities of biomedical science.  We are excited by opportunities for young people, and also for those who are career-established, to become engaged with biomedical research both personally and professionally.

The Speak Up For Research Education Fund flows from your generosity and protects support and trust in biomedical research, ensuring that this work can continue robustly into the future.
Should we tinker with our DNA? A Seattle Community Conversation

New technology called CRISPR/Cas9 helps scientists modify DNA more quickly and precisely than ever before.  What if DNA that contributes to sickness could be modified to ensure or restore good health?

*    What about creating children with permanent DNA modifications that can be passed on?
*    What uses of this technology would not be OK?

Join us Tuesday December 1st from 6:30-8pm in South Lake Union to learn more about this cutting edge technology and the ethical implications of its use.  No science background necessary, all questions and perspectives welcome.  Learn more and register
