We're Working for You!
On April 24, our volunteers and staff delivered information and education about epilepsy to the 38 Assembly Members and 15 Senators who represent our Northern California region. Organized by Epilepsy California, a collaboration founded by the epilepsy foundations of Los Angeles, San Diego and Northern California, we gathered in Sacramento to speak out about epilepsy issues. Generous volunteers Charles, Jim, Christina with son Cameron, and Diane made it possible to reach our state leaders. Seven-year-old Cameron charmed everyone he met as well as managed the personal delivery of information folders. Volunteers represented Sacramento, Santa Rosa, Three Rivers, Vallejo, AND all of Northern California.
We were joined by Dr. Edie Zusman, Neurosurgeon, Pacific Brain & Spine and new Chair of our EFNC Board of Directors. Dr. Michael Chez, Pediatric Neurologist, Sutter Neuroscience Institute and Dr. Edie Zusman met with Diana S. Dooley, the California Secretary of Health and Human Services and Assembly Speaker John A. Prez. Dr. Zusman was able to join us on visits to many other legislators.
The Epilepsy Foundation of Greater Los Angeles displayed their Love Your Brain Now exhibit garnering attention, curiosity, and education about the most important organ in our bodies--our brains of course! School children (and adults!) enjoyed the informative, interactive program.
A very special thanks to the Epilepsy Foundation of Greater Los Angeles, the Epilepsy Foundation of San Diego and Ann Kinkor, Legislative Consultant, all of whose leadership and organization made the event possible.
Think about it! Do your legislators know:
- That one-percent of their constituents have epilepsy?
- That epilepsy also affects family members, caregivers, teachers, and the entire community?
- The importance of eliminating the stigma of epilepsy?
- That the 99% of people who don't have epilepsy should learn the simple steps of seizure first aid?
Do your legislators understand the important legislative issues that impact you?
CAN YOU HELP? Yes! Watch for more information.
Treat your brain with loving care!
